Updates on Arsenal, including Aaron Ramsdale’s remarks following the loss to Southampton and the return of Emirates Stadium
Following a 3-1 loss to Bournemouth, Aaron Ramsdale, the former goalie for Arsenal, has issued a rallying call.
The England goalkeeper had a challenging evening as Southampton, led by Russell Martin, extended their Premier League winless streak. With just one victory in their first six games since returning to the English top division, the recently promoted team has struggled mightily and is now second from bottom, ahead of Wolves on goal differential.
The 26-year-old had a lengthy first half on Monday as the Cherries jumped out to a three-goal lead. After only seven minutes, goals from Antoine Semenyo and Dango Ouattara followed Evanilson’s Premier League debut. Before the hour, Taylor Harwood-Bellis was able to cut the arrears, but they were unable to mount a late rally.
Ramsdale signed a £18 million deal to leave Arsenal last month. The Gunners and the Saints worked out an add-on that may raise the overall cost to a whopping £25 million.
On Saturday, he will play his old team at the Emirates Stadium as the Saints attempt to spoil Mikel Arteta’s team’s hopes of winning the championship. In the meantime, the North London team hopes to cause more suffering for the South Coast team in order to secure a strong lead in the title battle going into the October international break.
After the loss, Ramsdale took to Instagram to acknowledge that not enough effort was put forward but to provide encouragement that things may be improved with perseverance. “We didn’t show enough fight and character in the first half, which is disappointing after all of your support,” he tweeted on social media.
There is just one way out: labor! I sincerely appreciate the support from both sets of supporters; it means a lot to me.”

Football.london is aware that as part of the agreed-upon add-ons, Arsenal will get an additional £1 million should Southampton avoid relegation. But the Saints have only managed to score three goals overall and have only managed to pick up one point from their six Premier League games this season.
The Saints manager expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance at Vitality Stadium after the loss. Martin stated: “I think that sums up the entire game; they commit 20 fouls to our 10 or whatever it is.
“We were pliable. If you don’t have the same level of fight, aggression, spirit, togetherness, and courage as we did in the first half, no matter who is on the field or how you play, you’re going to have a major, major problem.
“I was unable to identify our team. I was upset by the lack of passion and fight, and I didn’t like a lot of what I witnessed. Normally, I would be proud of them for their bravery, but they lacked all aggression, bravery, and intensity in their play.”
