Just than 24 hours before Sheffield Wednesday’s game against Swansea City, reports emerged that Yan Valery is likely to leave the Owls on loan.
Valery has only recently returned to action for his club, having previously represented Tunisia in the African Cup of Nations. However, he is poised to leave Hillsborough in a post-window loan move.
According to The Sheffield Star’s Alex Miller, the 26-year-old will now join Swiss Premier League club BSC Young Boys after an approach was accepted on Wednesday following the transfer window’s closure.
The Swiss transfer market remains open until February 16th, allowing Valery to join the Bern-based club, dealing another blow to Henrik Pedersen’s side.
Things are growing worse for the Steel City club, and with a takeover appearing to be a long way off, they will be hoping that this season ends sooner rather than later.
Yan Valery ready to shock Sheffield Wednesday exit

Sheffield Wednesday had a terrible month in January, with important departures such as Barry Bannan and Bailey Cadamarteri leaving their team significantly weaker than it was at the start of the month.
Another player that drew interest from other clubs was right-back Valery, who was wanted by both Rangers and Wrexham but would ultimately stay at Hillsborough until the summer, or so we thought.
Miller stated in a shocking claim that the Owls had grudgingly accepted a loan deal from BSC Young Boys, sending the Tunisian to Bern ahead of the World Cup this summer.
The Swiss club will allegedly pay the defender’s salary in full for the duration of the loan, which means Sheffield Wednesday could look to the free agency market to find a replacement for Valery.
Sheffield Wednesday fans react with shock. Yan Valery News

While Valery’s departure would have been expected during the transfer window, the sudden nature of his upcoming move to Switzerland has left fans startled, with less than 24 hours until they face Swansea in the Championship.
Following the announcement of Valery’s impending departure, Wednesdayites turned to X to express their dismay, leaving many wondering when the terrible news would end.
Another was astonished that Valery remained with the club until January, given his international ambitions.
Another believed the club was sensible in their approach to loan out someone who didn’t want to be there.
Another was less delighted, questioning the fee that the Owls would receive from the transaction.
And finally, someone had had enough of the terrible news.
