A statement was released after Charlton’s Conor Coady was sent to the hospital mid-game.

Conor Coady’s status has been updated after the 33-year-old defender sustained a concerning injury during Charlton Athletic’s 1–1 draw with Watford on Monday.

The former Wolves and Everton centre-back, who earned 10 England caps between 2020 and 2022, required extensive treatment after being smacked in the face by a thunderous Tom Ince shot during second-half stoppage time.

Coady, who had been knocked unconscious, was treated for nine minutes before being stretchered off the field at Vicarage Road. Because of the seriousness of the injuries, television cameras instantly panned away, and viewers did not see replays of the troubling incident.

The experienced defender, making his 500th senior club appearance, was taken away in an ambulance near the corner flag. After the match, Charlton manager Nathan Jones stated: “He was taken off and taken to hospital.”He puts his body on the line on his 500th outing and is knocked out, which characterizes his performance. We will notify everyone as soon as we learn more.”

Charlton Releases Conor Coady Statement.

Late Monday night, Charlton provided a favorable update, confirming Coady’s discharge from the hospital. The statement read:

“Conor Coady has been released from the hospital following a head injury sustained in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road.

“The 33-year-old was rendered unconscious after being struck by a shot in stoppage time. He was stretchered off and sent to a nearby hospital for a series of scans.

“Coady has subsequently received the all-clear and was released this evening.

“The club would like to thank Watford’s medical personnel for their help and support.

“Charlton’s medical staff will continue to monitor him in line with the appropriate protocols.”

Coady posts a message on Instagram.

The former England star also calmed worried supporters by posting a snapshot of himself and his baby on his Instagram story with the caption: “On my way back home with my boy… thank you all for the messages, they mean a lot.” Another point on the board for the guys.

With Monday’s draw, 18th-placed Charlton currently have 49 points with five games remaining, putting them solidly on track to play Championship football again next season.

Meanwhile, their opponents, Watford, are 10th in the table with 57 points, six points behind seventh-placed Southampton, who stunned Arsenal to reach the FA Cup semi-finals over the Bank Holiday weekend.
