A Sheffield Wednesday supporter was reportedly bitten prior to the Championship fixture against Millwall

A Sheffield Wednesday fan received stitches after being bitten before the team’s game against Millwall last weekend.

According to the Daily Mail, the incident occurred at 2.48pm on Saturday, just minutes before the game at Hillsborough began.

The Owls were hosting Alex Neil’s side, hoping to pick up only their second win of the season under Henrik Pedersen. However, an own goal by Cole McGhee and a strike from Macaulay Langstaff in the 74th minute secured the Lions’ 2-1 comeback triumph.

It was a significant three points for the London club, who are aiming for automatic promotion to the Premier League this season. However, pre-match news has added a new dimension to the day.

According to reports, a Sheffield Wednesday fan required stitches after being bitten by a Millwall supporter.

It is reported that the fan is now alright and recovering from the tragedy, but he required medical attention.

Sheffield Wednesday are understood to be supporting South Yorkshire police in their investigation into the incident, which resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old man.

The detectives issued a statement announcing that the 22-year-old has been released on bail awaiting further investigation.

“At 2.48pm on Saturday (14 February), we received a report of an altercation on the concourse outside Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield,” a representative for South Yorkshire police told the Daily Mail.

“According to reports, a man assaulted another man, and the victim, a man in his forties, got an ear damage.

“A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm.”

“He has been bailed pending further enquiries.”

Sheffield Wednesday is facing a rough period.

Sheffield Wednesday has already had a dreadful season, winning only one of its 32 league games.

Uncertainty surrounds ownership, with the club awaiting EFL approval for James Bord’s attempt to buy the Owls.

The Owls are at the bottom of the Championship table and face relegation.

Pedersen’s team will meet bitter rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on February 22nd, with a 12pm kickoff.

Meanwhile, Millwall sit third, three points behind second-place Coventry City, with Neil’s team due to face Portsmouth on February 21 at 3 p.m.
