With just one week remaining in the January transfer window, John Eustace will be seeking for any late additions to give Derby County plenty of momentum heading into the second half of the season.
The Rams were held by West Bromwich Albion on Friday evening, with Chris Mepham’s last-minute header denying the hosts a much-needed victory at Pride Park, after Patrick Agyemang gave his side the lead in the first half.
Derby have struggled at home this season, and with only four wins on their own turf, it is critical that new players are brought in to assist the club break their DE24 hoodoo as they seek a play-off spot.
Bristol City welcome the Rams to Ashton Gate on Friday, and fans will be eager to see at least one new face before the match against the Robins. Football League World has compiled a list of the East Midlands club’s most recent transfers.
Free agent Amine Bassi is on Derby County’s radar.

A report on Friday, prior to West Brom’s visit, linked Derby with a deal for free agency Moroccan midfielder Amine Bassi.
According to FootMercato, the Championship side is monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation after he left MLS team Houston Dynamo at the end of the 2025 season, after a three-campaign stint with the US club.
Bassi, an offensive midfielder at heart, played 15 games in England’s second division for Barnsley in 2022, scoring twice and providing five assists as the Tykes were relegated to League One alongside Derby.
Nonetheless, he wants to return to Europe, and Eustace appears eager to provide the Moroccan that opportunity.
Tommy Watson, a former Derby County target, has become available.

Meanwhile, TEAMtalk reported over the weekend that Brighton & Hove Albion intend to send Tommy Watson out on loan in the January transfer window, after signed for the Seagulls in the later stages of the 2024/25 season.
He finished the season with Sunderland, scoring the winning goal against Sheffield United in the play-off final. Derby and Hull City both watched the winger in September, and with his playing time limited at the AMEX Stadium, the Championship is beckoning once more for the 19-year-old.
While the Rams have not been identified as being among those still interested in the adolescent, club scouts may still be keeping an eye on him.
Nonetheless, Alan Nixon has stated that Millwall are very interested in Watson, and given their promotion goals, he could be an excellent fit for the Lions.
John Eustace tells more about Jake Rooney’s future with Derby County

Jake Rooney spent the first half of the season on loan at Barnsley in League One, but the 22-year-old only appeared once in the league under former teammate Conor Hourihane, and was promptly recalled by his home club.
The 22-year-old, who is the cousin of former Derby County manager and Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney, is yet to feature for the Rams this season, but his management is quite impressed with his off-the-field performance.
Nonetheless, Eustace has agreed that Rooney needs to play games, and when asked about his future at Pride Park, he remarked (via Derbyshire Live): “I believe Jake’s contract expires at the end of the year, and he’s a fantastic boy. “He trains daily and is a professional when called upon for the first team. I have no reservations about playing him in that position.”But it’s also necessary that he go out and play a few games elsewhere to continue improving his career.”
