A new update has emerged on Brighton’s transfer intentions for a £10 million player, with Millwall pushing to sign him.

Brighton have allegedly made a decision on Tommy Watson’s immediate future, despite loan interest in the former Sunderland winger from Championship clubs including Millwall.

Watson demonstrated his ability in the second division last season, scoring the winning goal in Sunderland’s 2-1 play-off final victory over Sheffield United in May, despite having already committed to a £10 million summer move to the Seagulls.

Since joining Brighton from the Black Cats last summer, the 19-year-old has only appeared in six Premier League games and has made no starts in the top level.

Watson scored three goals in the Championship last season and might have a huge influence at the end of the current second-tier season, with several clubs reportedly interested in signing him on a temporary basis.

Tommy Watson is set for Championship loan move as Millwall plots deal.

Millwall, Stoke City, Preston North End, and Bristol City are all interested in signing Watson, who is a Championship play-off contender.

With a Premier League spot on the line for next season, the Lions, Potters, Lilywhites, and Robins are all vying for additional talent.

According to TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Watson is expected to depart Brighton on loan before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Crook’s article touted Millwall as a ‘live option’ for the England Under-21 international, following Alan Nixon’s announcement earlier this week that the Lions were interested in signing the teenage attacker.

Tommy Watson addition would mark successful transfer window for Millwall

Millwall are having a relatively successful Championship season, with an outside chance of worrying Middlesbrough and Ipswich Town in the race for an automatic promotion slot.

Because the Lions are performing well in the second tier, manager Alex Neil has not seen the need to make substantial reinforcements in the transfer market.

As a result, Millwall’s only signing so far is Sheffield Wednesday icon Barry Bannan, who left the Owls during their difficult spell in administration.

The 36-year-old is an astute addition to the Lions, bringing extensive experience and remarkable talent to his new team.

Watson, on the other hand, is still in the early phases of his career and is a great livewire who can assist Neil’s team return to the Premier League after winning promotion with Sunderland last season.

Adding the 19-year-old to his squad would perfectly complement Neil’s decision to sign Bannan.

Should he finalize his move to London, Watson will be anxious to make his Millwall debut against play-off rivals Wrexham on February 7.

Aside from their match against the Red Dragons, the Lions play relegation contenders Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth next month, providing them with crucial opportunity to boost their promotion bid.

Millwall’s visit to Wednesday in February will be a bittersweet event for Bannan, who played over 470 games for the Owls.

The Hillsborough club may also struggle to contain Watson, who shown the threat he can cause to Championship teams while playing for Sunderland.
