A new transfer twist involving Hayden Hackney and Manchester United has emerged, potentially raising concerns for Leeds United and Middlesbrough

Manchester United is keeping an eye on Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney ahead of the summer transfer window, as Leeds United is also interested.

The Boro star has been instrumental in Kim Hellberg’s team’s bid for promotion to the Premier League, with the club now leading the league standings.

Hackney rose through the ranks of Middlesbrough’s academy system, becoming a key member of the squad under current Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick.

He has four goals and five assists in the Championship this season, playing in all 31 games.

Manchester United’s Hayden Hackney stance amid Leeds interest

Hackney has been on Manchester United’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window, following his impressive performances for Middlesbrough.

Alan Nixon revealed last weekend that Leeds want to sign the midfielder.

However, they could now face competition from Manchester United, who are looking to strengthen their midfield.

It is already clear that Casemiro will leave Old Trafford at the conclusion of the season, leaving the Red Devils with only Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo to pick from.

Man United are not the only club keeping an eye on Hackney, with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur also interested in signing him.

The 23-year-old’s contract is slated to expire in the summer of 2027, putting him at risk of becoming a free agent as things stand.

Middlesbrough presently lead the Championship table by two points over Coventry City, who face off this evening at the CBS Arena.

Meanwhile, Millwall sit in third place, five points behind Boro, with one game remaining.

Hayden Hackney will demand Premier League interest, regardless of Middlesbrough’s promotion prospects.

Hackney has been quite impressive this season, so it’s no surprise that he’s attracting so much transfer interest.

He is the type of player who may thrive at Manchester United, albeit he is unlikely to be a first-choice at Old Trafford.

That is something Hackney will have to consider while deciding on his future, since he may always prolong his term at the Riverside.

His contract status will most likely be determined by Middlesbrough’s promotion prospects, but even Premier League football with the Teesside club may not be enough to persuade him to stay if Manchester United or Leeds come calling.
