A new Josh Sargent transfer twist emerges as Toronto pushes for the Norwich City deal.

Toronto FC is not giving up on signing USMNT attacker Josh Sargent from Norwich City in January, as the Canadian team has submitted a new bid after previously being rejected.

According to Pete O’Rourke via X, Toronto FC has made a new bid for Norwich City’s American striker Josh Sargent.

Sargent has not been in a matchday squad since the Canaries’ 2-0 home loss to Stoke City in January, having informed manager Philippe Clement that he does not wish to be considered for selection and is looking to return to his native North America.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Norwich has previously rejected Toronto’s $18 million (£13.5 million) bid for the 25-year-old.

In the latest Josh Sargent transfer twist, Norwich City has received a fresh bid from Toronto FC.

MLS team Toronto is attempting to reach an agreement with Norwich for Sargent before the end of the month, with the Canadian club submitting an enhanced offer for the American forward.

Details of the new offer have yet to be confirmed, although it is expected to be higher than the previously rejected $18 million (£13.5 million).

Indeed, Norwich accepted a £21 million approach from German club VFL Wolfsburg for Sargent in the summer, only for him to reject a return to Germany in favor of staying in England.

Other clubs in England had expressed interest in Sargent, as reported by Mike McGrath via X. Nottingham Forest had previously been linked with a move for him.

However, it appears that Sargent only wants to relocate to Toronto, citing a desire to return to his own continent for family reasons, with stories circulating of a heated fight with sporting director Ben Knapper, in which the American exited the meeting clearly unhappy.

Whether Norwich accepts this new offer remains to be seen, but with the American unlikely to play for the Canaries again, a deal might be reached within the next week, with only a few days remaining in the window.

Philippe Clement and Norwich City fans will be disappointed with Josh Sargent’s transfer situation.

Throughout his time with Norwich, Sargent has been one of the club’s most valuable assets and key players, demonstrating both consistency in front of goal and hard work away from it.

The American has 56 goals and 15 assists in 156 games in all competitions for Norwich, but his form has dipped significantly this season, resulting in the Canaries finishing in the bottom half of the Championship table.

Though since Philippe Clement took over at Carrow Road following Liam Manning’s dismissal, performances and results have improved dramatically, with their most recent 2-1 win at home to high-flying Coventry City giving the club all the confidence it needs to get out of this difficult situation.

And their recovery has been mostly without Sargent, indicating that he may not be as vital as previously thought.

Despite this, Sargent became a firm fan favourite at Carrow Road, and his refusal to play and eagerness to leave the club while in a dangerous position will undoubtedly leave a foul taste in the mouths of Norwich supporters.

It remains to be seen whether a deal will be completed before the window shuts, but Toronto has not given up its chase, and the only question is whether Norwich believes this new approach matches their valuation.
