A major breakthrough has emerged in the Sheffield Wednesday takeover – news that is sure to excite fans.

Sheffield Wednesday fans have been keen for their club to receive new and steady investment at Hillsborough, with the takeover process taking several months.

Since Dejphon Chansiri threw the club into administration on October 24th, Paul Stanley, Julian Pitts, and Kris Wigfield of Begbies Traynor have had interim management of the Owls.

Off-pitch headlines have dominated in this part of Sheffield for the past year, with the aforementioned Chansiri’s 10-year reign as chairman coming to a halt after years of local protests about how Wednesday had fallen from being a potential Premier League outfit to nearly ceasing to exist entirely.

Henrik Pedersen’s threadbare team has been fined 18 points during the Championship season, the first of which was the EFL’s automatic 12-point penalty for going into administration four months ago.

Unsurprisingly, Stanley, Pitts, and Wigfield have been eager to get fresh financing as soon as possible so that the S6 club can begin a new chapter in the best possible shape.

Several high-profile names have been associated with a purchase of the club over the years, and it appeared that the group led by ex-professional poker player James Bord would be successful after being granted preferred bidder status on Christmas Eve.

However, Bord withdrew his £47.8 million bid after the Owls’ relegation to League One was mathematically guaranteed last month, leaving David Storch and Mike Ashley to prepare second bids after being rejected previously.

In the most recent turn of events, one of those proved successful, with Storch attending Hillsborough for the club’s 1-1 draw with Watford on Tuesday night.

Sheffield Wednesday’s joint administrators gave preferred bidder status to David Storch.

Shortly after the final whistle in the Owls’ 1-1 draw, in which Vivaldo Semedo cancelled out Jerry Yates’ opener in second half stoppage time, BBC Radio Sheffield reported that a deal granting Storch preferred bidder status was about to be signed off.

Storch recently voiced confidence in his ability to complete a takeover agreement after having a joint proposal with John McEvoy rejected in December, while it was established that Ashley’s bid was valued just over £10 million and substantially less than any other.

Alan Nixon said that Storch was willing to accept a 15-point deduction at the start of next season if his bid was less than £30 million, with taxes to be met while also guaranteeing that creditors, including Chansiri, were paid 25p for every £1.

The Owls’ joint administrators have since issued a statement stating that Storch’s consortium, Arise Capital Partners LLC, has been picked as the new preferred bidders, and that he would be joined by Michael Storch and Tom Costin.

The consortium has now been given an exclusivity period and has committed to cover Wednesday’s trade losses if the transaction cannot be completed within eight weeks.

It has also been verified that, while the offer is less than what is required to pay off the creditors, it was the best outcome for the club going forward, and Storch has issued his own statement on the topic.

“We are happy and excited to take this significant step towards management of this great football club. As we move forward with this process, we look forward to collaborating with the local community, communicating openly with supporters, and commencing on this journey to restore Sheffield Wednesday to its rightful place. “We are absolutely committed to providing a brighter future for our fans and restoring joy to Hillsborough,” he added.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters would hope for a simpler exclusivity period following David Storch’s breakthrough.

Following the problems surrounding the aforementioned Bord-led attempt, which included him being sued by former business partner Jonathan Cohen and his previous ties to Sheffield United, Owls fans will hope for a smoother and more successful outcome this time around.

Many have pointed out that an important item in the aforementioned statement is the full identity of Storch’s consortium and his collaborators from the start, which did not occur with Bord’s offer.

While the South Yorkshire team may have their job cut out next season due to the predicted points deficit, it has the potential to restore long-term stability to S6 in the long run.
