A director, whom Newcastle desired to replace Dan Ashworth, is expected to secure a new position at a Premier League club.

Newcastle United has not yet determined the individual who would assume the role of Sporting Director following the departure of Dan Ashworth, who recently revealed his decision to join Manchester United.

Several names have been proposed as potential contenders for the post, including the possibility of promoting top scout Steve Nickson from within.

One individual that had been the subject of rumors was Richard Hughes, who recently departed Bournemouth and is now reportedly poised to join Liverpool if they reinstate Michael Edwards.

Newcastle’s search for a replacement for Ashworth faces a setback.
The speculation around Hughes was intensified by his association with Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, which first seemed like a perfect fit. However, it now appears improbable.

Newcastle had expressed interest in Michael Edwards, who has been without a football club since his departure from Liverpool in 2022. However, it appears that he may now be returning to Liverpool this summer, resulting in a double setback for Newcastle.

Hughes is expected to join Edwards at the Merseyside club as they approach a new phase with the announcement of Jurgen Klopp’s departure at the end of the season. They are seeking top-tier talent to commence this new chapter.

Newcastle is currently in the process of finding a replacement for Ashworth. The list of probable candidates is decreasing, but the club is committed to conducting extensive research on each person under consideration. As a result, the search may still take a considerable amount of time.
