After scoring four goals for Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Kane surpassed his countryman in the competition’s main draw with thirty goals scored.
Harry Kane was ecstatic to be having a “conversation” with Wayne Rooney following his magnificent break of his Champions League record.
The striker for Bayern Munich needed one goal to tie Rooney’s record of thirty goals by an Englishman in the competition’s main draw going into Tuesday night’s matchup with Dinamo Zagreb. After scoring four goals in a 9-2 victory at the Allianz Arena, three of which came from the penalty spot, 90 minutes later the current captain of England was three goals ahead of one of his predecessors.
“Anytime you’re in a conversation with Wayne Rooney, it means you’re doing something well,” Kane stated to Prime Video. He is among the top players in the history of the game and one of the greatest English players ever. It’s a worthy accomplishment.
After 19 minutes, Kane equaled Rooney’s score from the penalty spot. Twelve minutes into the second half, he increased his total from open play and scored twice more from 12 yards out.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever had three penalties in one game,” the 31-year-old remarked. I felt differently about it, but four goals is a great accomplishment. It’s critical to support the team in any manner that you can. I’ll take them all, penalties or regular finishes alike. For us, the evening was fantastic.”
There will also be a pleasant surprise for Kane’s three-year-old son Louis when he wakes up on Wednesday morning if he adds a new record to his collection of honors.
“I keep all the balls after hat-tricks,” declared the striker. Though the guys may get tired of signing them, don’t stop. Louis, my kid, is now very passionate about football. Even though he’s just three, I’ll take it home and place it next to his bed so that when he wakes up in the morning, he will be delighted.”
Raphael Guerreiro and Michael Olise gave Bayern a 3-0 lead at the half. Bruno Petkovic and Takuya Ogiwara briefly pulled the visitors back into the game, but Kane’s hat-trick in the second half, along with goals from Olise and substitutes Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka, continued Bayern’s unbeaten start to the season under Vincent Kompany.
Kane declared: “We’ve returned with positive vibes. We’ve been insatiably hungry. That was evident from the start of the preseason under the new coach. We’ve begun the season with the belief that everyone has something to prove.
It’s crucial that we follow the coach’s instructions and push hard both with and without the ball. We are aware that our excellence allows us to dominate teams.
