Wolves’ recruiting team will already be looking ahead to the January transfer window as they attempt to enhance Cesar Peixoto’s squad in preparation for promotion.
It appears obvious that Wanderers will want to sign a new striker, but aside from the lack of depth up front, the Portuguese manager will be delighted with the general state of the squad.
However, Wolves face a dilemma with their squad size, as they are already at the 25-man limit. To secure new additions, players will have to go.
Tommy Doyle, who has only played 281 minutes in the Championship this season before the midweek fixtures, is one player who could be available for a move.
Furthermore, Peixoto appears to be unfamiliar with Doyle’s best position, as he had played higher up the pitch before coming on as a number six in the recent win over Bristol City.
So, the £5 million signing may believe he is at a point in his career where he can play consistently and establish a permanent home.
Two Championship clubs should target the 25-year-old in the New Year.
Cardiff City

Brian Barry-Murphy has led the Bluebirds to some amazing moments in the Championship, implementing a defined style of play with the Welsh club.
However, Cardiff’s one significant concern right now is a lack of depth, and they might benefit from bolstering in a variety of areas during the January transfer window.
A new midfielder would be welcome, even if it is not a priority, and Doyle is well suited to Barry-Murphy’s style of play due to his exceptional ball control.
Doyle’s abilities were showcased to Cardiff fans during a loan stay in the 2021/22 season, but he has evolved much as a player since then, and he might now be a key member of the XI.
Again, he should thrive in a possession-based system, as Doyle can assist manage the tempo and move the ball fast. Furthermore, his mentality and experience at this level should benefit a young Bluebirds team.
Norwich City

Following a poor start to the season, Norwich appear to have finally turned a corner, and there will be hope that they may still achieve promotion this season, as was always the goal under Philippe Clement.
However, the first few months of the season have proven that Norwich still lacks depth, despite their bad injury record.
With Kenny McLean missing too many games due to injury, Norwich are looking for a new midfielder who can keep the ball, move it fast, and assist control games, which is exactly what Doyle is about.
It remains to be seen whether Wolves would be ready to sell to the Canaries, given their potential promotion rivalry, but it is certainly something Norwich should consider.
That’s because, on paper, it appears to be a terrific signing for Doyle and Norwich, and he is the type of player Clement should aim to recruit to ensure his team can compete in the promotion fight this season.
