Charlton Athletic face criticism over their reported £1 million transfer deal with Luton Town

Following a promising start to the season, Charlton Athletic has had a nightmarish stretch in the Championship.

Charlton won their first three games of the season against Derby County, West Ham United, and Preston North End, but they have dropped down the table following a poor run of form in recent months.

Charlton Athletic supporters lash out at Millenic Alli as the dreadful Championship run continues.

Charlton lost 1-0 to Bolton Wanderers at The Valley on Tuesday night, with Sam Dalby’s 18th-minute goal securing a critical three points for the Trotters against their fellow strugglers.

The Addicks are now winless in 11 league games, with their last victory coming at the end of August, and their fourth successive defeat has dropped them to 21st in the Championship standings, while remaining four points clear of the relegation zone.

Under-fire Charlton manager Nathan Jones introduced Millenic Alli in the 77th minute of the loss to Bolton in a bid to get his team back into the game, but the 26-year-old’s performance was poor once more.

After scoring one goal and two assists in 21 appearances during his loan term at Portsmouth in the second part of last season, the Addicks bought Alli permanently from League One club Luton Town this summer for an initial fee of £1 million on a four-year deal.

However, Alli has yet to make an impression in south-east London, recording only one assist in 14 games across all competitions this season, with only four of those starts, and he received harsh criticism on social media following Charlton’s midweek defeat.

Brutal Charlton Athletic fan verdict issued on Millenic Alli, as Addicks send strong warning.

Chris Woodward, a Charlton Athletic fan, criticised Alli for his poor work rate and lack of effort, warning the club that offloading him could be tough in the future.”I believe disaster is an understatement,”

Chris told FLW.I had low hopes for Alli when he initially joined, but he’s underperformed much more than that.”I thought the £1 million price tag was strange for a player who was poor at a struggling Portsmouth last year and wasn’t exactly loved at Luton.

“”I don’t want to let my previous opinion of Alli cloud my judgement, but this is one of the worst pieces of business we’ve done in years.”Despite our current squad’s shortcomings, I value players who strive for success and give their all.

“Alli is a slacker who provides little value.”The fact that he doesn’t receive much game time on the wing in a club with only one real winger speaks much about his ability and effort. After four years with him,

I can’t see anyone else wanting to take him away from us.I haven’t disliked many players under Nathan Jones, including those who didn’t meet the needed standards, but Alli may be up there.

Millenic Alli, Charlton. The athletic predicament sums up the major Nathan Jones issue as pressure increases.

With only three goals during his loan stay at Portsmouth last season and four for Luton in the Championship the year before, Alli was never going to be Charlton’s attacking solution.

There are serious questions about why the Addicks paid a seven-figure sum for Alli rather than investing those cash in a more proven option, but the situation underlines one of the most pressing concerns Jones faces as he attempts to turn around his team’s current slump.

Alli is far from the only Charlton forward who has underperformed this season, with Karlan Grant, Charlie Kelman, Matt Godden, and Miles Leaburn scoring only four goals between them, and with such a paucity of quality at his disposal, Jones may face even more agony.
