Sheffield Wednesday striker Ali Al-Hamadi has taken to social media to reflect on his start at Hillsborough, and teammate Barry Bannan has responded.
Al-Hamadi was one of 18 new signings made by Wednesday this summer as part of the club’s rebuilding under new owner David Storch, although his loan move from Ipswich Town has not gone as smoothly as he had planned thus far.

Wednesday’s return to League One has been disappointing, with the South Yorkshire club presently ninth in the table, two points behind the play-off places, having won only two of their last nine league games.
After parting ways with Henrik Pedersen last month, the Owls named former Stockport County manager Dave Challinor as their new manager this week, and the 51-year-old will take command for the first time in Sunday’s FA Cup match at Oldham Athletic.
However, while Challinor will be eager to test his new squad in the coming weeks, he may be missing Al-Hamadi for the first few games of his stay due to a new injury.
Al-Hamadi has failed to open his account for Wednesday since his summer arrival, and injuries have limited him to only eight appearances, with his only start coming in the 2-0 defeat to Doncaster last month, which was Pedersen’s penultimate game.
Al-Hamadi, who had missed a few games earlier this season owing to a foot ailment, was left out of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Blackpool due to a new injury, which manager Matt Hamshaw said may keep him out for “a number of weeks”.
Barry Bannan responds as Ali Al-Hamadi offers a bold Sheffield Wednesday message.
Unfortunately for Al-Hamadi, he has had his fair share of injury problems in recent years, most notably during his loan stay at Luton Town last season, where he scored one goal and gave one assist in 14 games.
Al-Hamadi’s goal at Hillsborough was to establish himself in the Wednesday team. Despite being in the treatment room again, he remains keen to recover from his latest setback. On Tuesday, Al-Hamadi posted on Instagram, “It has been a frustrating stop-start the last few weeks for me.””Working as hard as ever to stay on the pitch, help the team, and achieve our season goals.”
Al-Hamadi was swamped with support following his open perspective on his experience on Wednesday, with the post receiving over 16,600 likes at the time of writing, including his Owls teammate Barry Bannan.

Dave Challinor’s arrival is bad timing for Ali Al-Hamadi at Sheffield Wednesday.

Al-Hamadi was a prolific scorer in the EFL during his time with AFC Wimbledon in League Two, but he has struggled to find his best form since leaving Plough Lane for Ipswich for a cost of slightly more than ยฃ1 million nearly three years ago.
Despite his injury troubles at Luton last season, it’s easy to see why Wednesday took a chance on Al-Hamadi this summer, but as he continues to struggle with fitness, his loan spell at Hillsborough risks becoming another fiasco.
With Challinor taking over this week, Al-Hamadi would have been eager to demonstrate his abilities to the new Owls manager, but it looks he will be unavailable during the early stages of his reign, allowing others to rise through the ranks.
