Philippe Clement was left regretting individual mistakes after Norwich City lost a seven-goal thriller against Wanderers.
The hosts led 1-0 and 2-1 in a frantic first half, but they found themselves chasing the game after the interval and ultimately falling short.
Thierry Gale, Gaizka Larrazabal, Sam Dalby, and Atsuki Ito all scored for the Whites as Steven Schumacher’s side won consecutive Championship games.
“It was a furious game in many respects. “My first assessment is that you cannot win games if you concede four goals, and that is the most important point,” Clement told our sister publication, the Pink Un.
“We started the game really well, aggressively, on the front foot, and scored a fantastic goal. Then, on their first attack, we concede a goal, which is too easy to do.
“We knew what to expect from the winger (Gale). We had four players around him, and he was still able to shoot and score, indicating that we were not defending well.
“They had some transition situations, and we didn’t defend effectively in the first half, but we maintained control of the game.
“Then you concede a second goal on a situation where our attacking players are only thinking about attacking, not defending, and you fall apart as a team.”
Mohamed Toure was pulled off hurt shortly after his goal, while the hosts also lost Ben Chrisene and Kenny McLean in the closing moments.
“On the opposite side of hectic, wild things, we had to make a lot of substitutions today. We had to take Mo out of the game before halftime due to an injury, despite the fact that he was playing well and damaging them,” Clement said.
“We sustained a couple other injuries throughout the game. Ben Chrisene’s shoulder popped out. You make your final change 10 minutes before the end to force something, and we were pushing, going for it, hoping to earn at least one point.
“Then Kenny snaps his ankle in a battle, and you have to play with 10, so you can’t make this final drive.
“Even with 10, the cross that goes behind Paris (Maghoma) is a free header; otherwise, it’s 4-4, and the sensation and emotions are different after the game since the squad kept pushing.
“Now you’ve suffered a loss, and your feelings include sadness and frustration. That is understandable because you hate losing at home, and we make so many mistakes ourselves.
“If the opponent does really amazing things to score goals, it’s a different picture but today we made too many individual mistakes.”
