Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa are expected to stay at West Ham United for the foreseeable future, despite the fact that several transfer windows in other nations remain open.

The transfer window has been closed for a little less than a week, but that doesn’t mean squads are set between now and the end of the calendar year.

Indeed, the summer windows in Switzerland, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic end later today (Tuesday); Poland’s tomorrow; Greece’s next Tuesday, among others; and, most importantly, Saudi Arabia’s transfer window does not close until October.

As a result, while English clubs are unable to spend money on new signings, they can still offload certain marginal players if necessary. Two West Ham players who have yet to appear in league action, however, are expected to stay.

Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa are poised to remain at West Ham.

According to Claret & Hugh, a West Ham transfer source believes that midfield combination Alvarez and Magassa will both stay at the London Stadium for the time being, despite the fact that they still have the option to go.

According to the insider, “neither will go to those other leagues,” such as Switzerland, Poland, or Greece, “and Saudi have pulled right back on money.”

It’s been an unpredictable summer at West Ham in terms of who will stay and who will depart. The opinion was that the European-level talent they brought in would not want to play in the second tier. However, they depart the window with Jarrod Bowen, Taty Castellanos, and Konstantinos Mavropanos remaining at the club.

And it appears that Alvarez, who spent last season on loan at Fenerbahçe and captained Mexico in the World Cup this summer, as well as Magassa, a young Frenchman with a lot of potential, will remain in the Championship.

Keeping Edson Alvarez will offer West Ham United a major, unexpected boost.

Perhaps, excluding Bowen, Alvarez would have been one of the first names out of the London Stadium following West Ham’s relegation, especially given that, if not for injuries, the 28-year-old would have already left.

Alvarez’s loan deal with Fenerbahçe last season included a buy option worth a whopping £19 million. However, after making only 12 league appearances for the Turkish club and needing ankle surgery in February to secure his World Cup eligibility, they did not exercise the provision.

With the midfielder in his peak years and having not contributed to West Ham’s terrible season last year, you can’t blame him for looking into his options.

Alvarez appeared in the Hammers’ EFL Cup victory over Portsmouth on the club’s unofficial first day, but has not appeared in any subsequent Championship games. West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo cited an injury as the reason for his absence, although it’s possible he was considering a move elsewhere.

However, it appears like West Ham are set to keep a player with over 100 national team caps who cost them £35 million just three summers ago, which can only be a good thing for their chances of rapid promotion.

Soungoutou Magassa may have a breakout season in the Championship.

While Alvarez’s future was uncertain, Magassa was apparently looking to go, but Claret & Hugh have indicated that the 22-year-old has apologised to Nuno and his colleagues for his “want-away” position.

The Frenchman, also recuperating from injury, will have to fight his way back into the side, but there’s every chance that he may have a breakout year at the London Stadium as and when he does.

Magassa has been utilised little over the last few seasons, whether that be at former club Monaco or last season at West Ham. He’s played fewer than 1,050 league minutes in each of his last two campaigns.

In the second division, though, the 22-year-old might achieve his potential a lot quicker and position himself as one of Nuno’s most crucial players in a promotion-chasing year.

Magassa is yet to see the pitch this season, although did make the bench for their EFL Cup second-round win over Southampton. It seems he’s not too far away from full fitness, and when he returns, he’ll have a point to prove and some supporters to win over, too.
