Troy Deeney has reacted to Krystian Bielik’s high-profile confrontation with a Portsmouth supporter following Cardiff City’s 2-0 defeat at Fratton Park over the weekend, calling for a ban for the Bluebirds defender amid a new police investigation.

The incident has received more attention than the match itself, which saw Cardiff suffer their second consecutive road defeat in only three days as Portsmouth secured their first win at Fratton Park in the 2026/27 season.

Bielik remained unpunished for his role in the conflict for the rest of the game, but the 11-cap Polish international is now facing the threat of a formal ban just two weeks after joining Brian Barry-Murphy’s side on a permanent basis from Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion.

Deeney, who previously played with Bielik at Birmingham City, has now chimed in on the situation, with the police now investigating.

Bielik seemed to hold the supporter around his upper torso, with several Portsmouth fans claiming he was grabbed by the throat, prompting Bluebirds manager Barry-Murphy to allege that his player was “slapped in the face” in reaction.

The fan was quickly ejected from the stadium, while Bielik’s actions went unpunished until opposition manager John Mousinho apologised to Cardiff’s players in his post-match press conference, though both clubs are now investigating the incident alongside Hampshire Police after being notified of it during the game.

Bielik has been blasted for his actions by many online in recent days, and with the subject being investigated by clubs and authorities alike, as well as the FA considering taking action, the ex-Arsenal prospect is likely to face a ban.

At this stage, it is unknown whether or not Bielik will be suspended, though Deeney has encouraged the FA to penalise the Bluebirds player in “the right way”.

Deeney, who played alongside Bielik at Birmingham in the 2022/23 season, has criticised his old teammate and feels that the probe should be “done properly”.
