Hull City have reportedly approved the departure of in-demand full-back Cody Drameh, but the news will come as a blow to the Championship trio of Preston North End, Sheffield United, and Stoke City on deadline day.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Tigers full-back is set to join Serie A side Genoa, with the Premier League newcomers also interested in Brooke Norton-Cuffy from the Italian club.

North End, the Blades, and the Potters have all had difficult and winless starts to the Championship season, with Lancashire and North Staffordshire also in the bottom two, while Stoke currently sits last in the division on goal difference.

Meanwhile, after finishing 13th last season, Chris Wilder’s side would have hoped to continue while undergoing a well-documented squad rebuild over the summer, but despite their draw-heavy start, United’s owners, COH Sports, have been embroiled in a legal dispute with former chairman Prince Abdullah.

The aforementioned Drameh was also extensively connected with a move to the Championship following initial rumours about his Hull future in January, but those plans appear to be dead in the water.

Cody Drameh poised for Serie A transfer following interest from Preston, Stoke, and Sheffield United.

Drameh, 24, has substantial Championship experience at this stage of his career, having spent loan stints with Cardiff City, Luton Town, and Birmingham City from Leeds United before joining Hull on a permanent basis in the summer of 2024 under Tim Walter.

The full-back has subsequently made 58 appearances for the Tigers in all competitions, 26 of which came last season when Sergej Jakirovic’s side made a surprise return to the Premier League.

However, as transfer rumours with Stoke, Preston, and Millwall surfaced, it was reported that Drameh had stated his ambition to stay at the MKM Stadium and compete for a spot in Jakirovic’s 25-man squad.

Sheffield United were then credited with interest prior to the recapture of Hamza Choudhury, and it now appears that the England youth international is set for his first European move in a swap deal for Norton-Cuffy, after Hull appeared to have quickly abandoned their initial pursuit of VfB Stuttgart and German international defender Josha Vagnoman.

Stoke City will be extremely annoyed by Hull City during this transfer window.

Drameh came on as a substitute in Hull’s Premier League victories over Manchester United and Coventry City, as well as in their EFL Cup victory over Stoke seven days earlier.

In addition to losing on penalties to the East Yorkshire side, this isn’t the first transfer controversy in which the two clubs have become embroiled, with Hull attempting to make a last-ditch move for Sorba Thomas, who scored 23 goals last season.

According to reports, the Welsh international will be left out of the Potters’ squad to face Norwich City at the Bet365 Stadium on Tuesday night as negotiations between the two teams continue.

Cody Drameh’s Stoke City blow came after similar frustration for Liam Millar.

Drameh isn’t the only Hull player Stoke has pursued this summer; as part of their discussions over Thomas’ departure, the Potters are one of three Championship sides interested in Canadian winger Liam Millar.

However, after it was announced on Monday that Birmingham and Middlesbrough had entered the transfer race, it has been widely speculated that the 26-year-old is most likely heading to St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park as Chris Davies attempts to add late attacking reinforcements.

As a result, such news comes as the latest setback for Stoke, while pressure is also rising on the Robins following a terrible start.
