Southampton FC reportedly rejected two late-window bids for winger Sam Edozie, who has issued his own statement on the situation.
Saints have had a fascinating summer of transfer activity following the Spygate incident, which prevented the Championship club an immediate return to the Premier League under Tonda Eckert, who may still face a ban from the FA.
Many changes have been made to the St Mary’s squad in recent weeks, but the late saga surrounding the 23-year-old has, predictably, drawn a lot of attention in the window’s last hours.
Southampton rejected proposals from RB Salzburg and Lecce for Sam Edozie.

Indeed, Mike McGrath of the Telegraph claimed on Monday night that two bids had been submitted for Edozie’s services from RB Salzburg and Italian Serie A club Lecce.
However, Southampton immediately rejected both proposals, which were rumoured to be in the region of £4 million and included sell-on clauses, the size of which was not disclosed.
Edozie has appeared 84 times for Saints since joining from Manchester City in 2023, scoring six goals and providing seven assists. He also spent the second half of the club’s 2024/25 Premier League season on loan with RSC Anderlecht of the Belgian Pro League.
Sam Edozie releases a transfer request social media post after Southampton rejects European transfer bids.

Earlier this summer, it was rumoured that clubs in the Championship and throughout Europe were keeping an eye on the vast range of players’ availability.
Despite this, Edozie appeared as a substitute against Watford and Stoke City in the season’s first two games before being left out of Saturday’s 5-1 victory against Millwall.
However, in a new twist to this transfer story, the England youth international, who appeared just 18 times in all competitions last season, has hit out at his current employers on Instagram, admitting that he has lodged a transfer request in order to seek regular first-team minutes.

Edozie has also stated that he has had many bids for his services over the last three windows, but the Saints’ need for a 50% sell-on clause on any future pay has created stumbling blocks.
Sam Edozie and Southampton must address the transfer problem ASAP.

It may not come as a surprise that Edozie has grown disgruntled with the paucity of opportunities that have come his way at St Mary’s in recent years, therefore Saints will aim to conclude this transfer drama as quickly as possible.
However, the winger issuing his own view on the matter on social media with little time remaining in the window, which might create a fascinating dynamic if an exit cannot be sanctioned before the 11 p.m. deadline.
Meanwhile, the Saints already have Lewis Dobbin and Leo Scienza as possibilities, making Edozie’s chances of playing time extremely difficult given their established record in the division over the last year.
