Blackburn Rovers have made a stunning loan enquiry for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott, hoping to bring the 23-year-old back to Ewood Park for the season.

Indeed, according to Alan Nixon on Patreon, Blackburn has contacted Liverpool about the prospective loan of England junior international Elliott this summer.

Elliott previously spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Ewood Park from the Reds, where he performed admirably, and the Lancashire club, coached by Tony Mowbray, is eager to have him back.

Blackburn has had a quiet summer, with Mowbray returning to the helm at Ewood Park following Michael O’Neill’s rejection and overseeing only a few additions.

Jayden Fevrier has joined permanently from Stockport County, while Sam Morsy enters as a free agent after being released from Bristol City, while Moussa Baradji’s loan move from Swiss club Yverdon became permanent before his return.

With only days till the summer deadline, Blackburn is running out of time to add to their squad, as Mowbray has attempted to authorise Elliott’s miraculous comeback in the closing phases of the window.

Elliott, 23, has had a difficult couple of years, falling out of favour at Liverpool before spending last season on loan at Aston Villa, where despite winning the Europa League, he made only nine appearances in all competitions for Unai Emery’s side.

After appearing for the Reds in pre-season, Spanish club Valencia is apparently interested in taking him to La Liga, with Blackburn facing heavy competition for his services.

Elliott is in the final year of his contract at Anfield, and a loan move would almost certainly be contingent on whether a new contract can be agreed upon with Liverpool before heading out on loan, something Blackburn must rely on if they are to have any chance of bringing him back to Ewood Park for the year.

Elliott would undoubtedly be a fantastic signing for any Championship club, including Blackburn.

While the former Fulham midfielder has had a difficult couple of years, Elliott has nearly 150 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, including 15 goals and 21 assists, giving him an impressive pedigree and experience for a 23-year-old.

The Englishman made his professional debut for Fulham at 15 years and 174 days old, briefly becoming the youngest Premier League player in history with the West London club at 16 years and 30 days old, before Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri broke the record three years later.

Elliott, who can play anywhere behind the main centre forward, would easily fit into Blackburn’s starting lineup.

Whether Blackburn can truly pull off this transaction is dependent on a number of circumstances, one of which being his current contract with Liverpool, which makes it highly improbable that Andoni Iraola’s team will loan him out for the year before potentially losing him on a free transfer in 2027.

It’s unclear whether Elliott would be willing to return to the Championship with Blackburn, but that won’t deter Rovers from seeking to finalise this potentially season-changing signing.
