Derby County, Wrexham and Millwall are all in the race to sign Watford captain Mattie Pollock, with the three Championship clubs reportedly showing interest ahead of the transfer deadline.

Derby County, Wrexham, and Millwall are reportedly interested in a late deal for Watford captain Mattie Pollock.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Pollock is garnering serious attention from the Championship trio ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline at 11 p.m.

Pollock joined Watford from League Two club Grimsby Town in the summer of 2021 for an initial amount of £250,000, and following loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Aberdeen, he has become a fixture at Vicarage Road in recent years.

Following an excellent season in which he won the club’s Player of the Season title, Pollock was named the Hornets’ new captain this summer by new head coach Alessio Dionisi, with Imran Louza stripped of the armband prior to his move to Panathinaikos.

Pollock has started all three of Watford’s league games this season, and he has helped his side get off to a strong start with victories over Southampton and draws against Wrexham and West Ham United, though his unfortunate own goal prevented Dionisi’s men from taking all three points against the Hammers.

Dionisi stated this week that the club “needs new players to complete the team,” with the Hornets particularly lacking in defence, but the Italian may be vulnerable to losing his captain before the transfer window closes as his list of suitors grows.

Derby County, Wrexham, and Millwall plan late Mattie Pollock, Watford raid.

With just over two days left in the transfer window, Watford may have to brace themselves for bids for Pollock, with Derby, Wrexham, and Millwall all rumoured to be interested in a late move.

Derby has had a bad start to the season, taking up only one point from their first three games and surrendering seven goals, and it appears that head coach John Eustace has set his sights on Pollock as he attempts to rectify his team’s defensive issues.

Wrexham have already spent heavily this summer to strengthen their back line, with Issa Kabore arriving for £2 million, Danny Imray joining for £5 million, and Jacques Ekomie moving to SToK Cae Ras for £8 million, but the Red Dragons could make one more defensive addition as they target Pollock.

Millwall had kept two clean sheets in their first two league games, but they were thrashed 5-1 by Southampton on Saturday, and they could try to persuade Pollock to move to The Den before next week’s transfer deadline.

Pollock is under contract at Vicarage Road until the summer of 2029, and the Hornets are thought to be hesitant to lose their captain in the last days of the transfer window, but his status could be worth keeping an eye on as Championship clubs compete for his services.

How Watford fans have responded as Derby County, Wrexham, and Millwall target Mattie Pollock

It is fair to say that Watford supporters have been critical of the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer, with owner Gino Pozzo coming under fire in recent weeks, and some were concerned about Pollock being sold late in the window.
