Birmingham City’s summer business does not appear to be complete, as with just under a week before the deadline, Chris Davies is hoping to strengthen his side’s assault with the signing of Nantes winger Bahereba Guirassy.

According to Belgian writer Sacha Tavolieri via X, Birmingham are attempting to hijack Swiss club Young Boys’ pursuit of French youth international and Nantes winger Guirassy.

Guirassy, 19, has already made nearly half a century of first-team appearances for Les Canaris despite being a teenager, and Birmingham are hoping to derail Young Boys’ transfer intentions for the winger by mounting their own bid for the French player.

Birmingham are aiming to add another option or two to their final third before the deadline, with a deal for Guirassy being planned by the Championship club.

According to French daily Ouest-France, the Blues have bid over €4 million (£3.4 million) for the winger, topping Young Boys’ offer of €3 million (£2.5 million).

Birmingham had previously pursued Joe Gelhardt before his move to Hull City from Leeds United, Sporting Gijon offensive midfielder Cesar Gelabert, and, most recently, Portsmouth’s Adrian Segecic, with Davies not satisfied with his present alternatives in that part of the play.

While the aforementioned players typically operate in the centre of the pitch, Guirassy is more of a winger, best suited to the left flank where he can cut in with his preferred right foot.

Guirassy is expected to depart Nantes this summer, but whether he will go to Switzerland or England remains to be seen.

Birmingham have not been hesitant about splurging the cash in recent years under the ownership regime of Tom Wagner and Tom Brady, affording head coach Davies over £50 million in acquisitions since the summer of 2024.

Davies has brought in Jay Stansfield, Kyogo Furuhashi, Carlos Vicente, and August Priske for large fees, but the former Leicester City assistant head coach is not completely satisfied with his present alternatives.

Birmingham have been hunting for another option on the left wing since Ibrahim Osman left in the summer after his loan agreement with Brighton and Hove Albion expired.

The Blues have already shown an interest in bringing the Ghanaian back to St Andrews this summer, but he now appears to be part of the Seagulls’ first-team ambitions on the South Coast, as Birmingham have moved on to Guirassy.

Stansfield has been preferred on the left flank over Demarai Grey in the first two Championship games of the season, as Davies has made it very obvious that he intends to bring in another option on that wing, and Guirassy would fit in perfectly in Birmingham’s assault.

Birmingham have only added Luis Vazquez to their attacking ranks this summer, with the Argentine striker joining from Belgian club Anderlecht earlier in the window, while both Furuhashi and Osman have left, leaving them in a weaker position in that area of the pitch than last season.

German centre-forward Marvin Ducksch, who has been linked with a return to Germany, could also leave before the deadline, as the Blues are expected to need one or two more reinforcements in the coming days.

The Championship club has been linked with a move for Ipswich Town attacker Anis Mehmeti in recent days, with Birmingham’s FLW fan commentator, Jason Moore, previously making a ‘go and get him’ plea for the Albanian.

With the clock ticking down to the deadline, Davies will be eager to add another forward to his squad as soon as possible, as Guirassy might be the next in line, making this drama one to watch.
