Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the manager of Feyenoord, has given an update on Anel Ahmedhodzic’s future amid rumours that he may return to Sheffield United.
Before moving to the Eredivisie powerhouses during the summer transfer window of 2025, the defender played for Bramall Lane for three years.
Despite making 26 appearances in the Dutch top tier the previous season, the Bosnian international was left out of the team’s first two games of the current campaign.
This has fueled rumours that Taylor Harwood-Bellis may leave the team this summer. Southampton has also been connected to a deal, with an asking price of £30 million.
After joining Sheffield United in 2022, Ahemdhodzic played in 103 league games for the Blades, 31 of which were in the Premier League.
He was an important member of the team that advanced to the play-off final in 2025 and won automatic promotion from the Championship under Paul Heckingbottom in 2023.
Anel Ahmedhodzic provides Sheffield United with an update

According to Van Bronckhorst, Ahmedhodzic was left out of the Feyenoord team for their match against Go Ahead Eagles because other possibilities were chosen due to concerns over his future.
With barely two weeks left in the transfer window, he has stated that he is uncertain about the defender’s future and that technical director Dévy Rigaux has not told him about any possible departure.
Van Bronckhorst stated, “I don’t know,” according to FC Update.
“He wasn’t in the squad today because we opted for other players—it’s as simple as that.” “I haven’t spoken to Děy about his situation or whether a transfer is on the cards.”
Feyenoord and Go Ahead Eagles drew 2-2 at home; the visitors’ late equaliser robbed van Brockhorst’s team all three points after they had led 2-0 at the break.
Although the Dutch team defeated Sparta Rotterdam in their first round match, Ahmedhodzic’s exclusion from the matchday lineup also raised concerns.

Whether Sheffield United or Southampton can persuade Feyenoord to cash in on the defender before the deadline of September 1st is still up in the air.
However, it’s thot that the European team is worried about the center-back’s large contract if he isn’t going to be a starter in the future, which might lead to a sale.
Sheffield United supporters’ reactions to Anel Ahmedhodzic’s comeback
The possibility of Ahmedhodzic coming to Bramall Lane this summer excites Sheffield United supporters, who have pushed the team to finalise a deal right now.

Sheffield United would greatly benefit from Anel Ahmedhodzic’s comeback.
After their unsuccessful attempt to sign Harry Souttar from Leicester City, Sheffield United is obviously looking for defensive reinforcement.
However, it would be a huge deal in these last few weeks of the window if they could bring Ahmedhodzic back instead.
After a stellar three years at Bramall Lane, the center-back now has a year of elite Eredivisie experience.
After just a year away, he already knows the team, the players, and the coaching staff, so he could fit right back into Wilder’s lineup.
