Birmingham City’s summer has been relatively quiet, but things are set to heat up at St Andrews with the arrival of a new centre-forward.

Birmingham have had a low-key start to the 2026 summer transfer season, signing only one new player so far.

Jhon Solis’ loan move from Girona has been made permanent for about £6 million, while James Beadle returns on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion for the second season in a row, with Dael Fry remaining the only new face after signing for free from Middlesbrough.

The Blues have spent more than £50 million in the previous two years under the ownership of Tom Wagner and Tom Brady’s Knighthead Capital investment group, and they are now hoping to spend a little more after agreeing to a contract to strengthen their assault once more.

Birmingham City has signed a deal of €3.5 million (£2.9 million) for Anderlecht forward Luis Vazquez.

Birmingham has not been reluctant to spend much on attacking options in recent years, and they want to continue this trend soon after signing a new contract.

Jay Stansfield, Carlos Vicente, Marvin Ducksch, and August Priske all arrived for nearly £30 million, with Priske joining from Swedish club Djurgarden for around £6 million in January to provide head coach Chris Davies with another option up front following Lyndon Dykes’ departure to Charlton Athletic.

Ducksch has been linked with a return to Germany, which, if true, would leave the Blues short on top, but Davies has addressed this by agreeing a €3.5 million (£2.9 million) deal with Anderlecht for Argentine striker Luis Vazquez, according to Sky Sport’s journalist Luca Bendoni via X.

Vazquez, 25, came up through Patronato’s junior system in Argentina before earning a reputation for himself with Boca Juniors, where he scored 16 goals and seven assists in 99 games across all competitions before moving to Europe with Belgian side Anderlecht in 2023.

The six-foot-three-inch striker has already made 116 appearances for Anderlecht in all competitions, scoring 18 and assisting five. However, he spent the second part of last season on loan in Spain with Getafe, where he scored three goals and assisted once in 17 La Liga games.

Now, it appears that the 25-year-old forward is on his way to St Andrews to compete with Priske and, for the time being, Ducksch at the top.

Vazquez has never been particularly productive in his career, but he will be looking to change that with his upcoming move to Birmingham, where he has the potential to dominate the Championship.

Chris Davies will hope for an immediate Luis Vazquez impact at Birmingham City once the Anderlecht trade has been confirmed.

Vazquez will arrive in Birmingham expecting to start the ground running virtually quickly.

The Blues are a team on the rise, and their immensely ambitious owners have made it clear that they want to play in the Premier League as soon as feasible.

While they finished 10th in the Championship last year, their excellent late-season form convinced the Birmingham board to keep Davies, as the former Leicester City assistant coach will be well aware of his need to compete in and among the top eight next year.

Vazquez’s arrival could be critical to his hopes of remaining in command until the end of next season, as the Argentine, hopefully for Davies, can elevate Birmingham’s offence.
