West Bromwich Albion have rebuilding work to do in the summer after narrowly avoiding Championship relegation in 2025-26, and they are likely to pay Chelsea a large price for forward Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
West Bromwich Albion struggled throughout the 2025-26 Championship season. A two-point deduction for PSR violations dropped them to 21st place in the final table, just one position and four points above the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, James Morrison’s appointment at the end of the season marked the end of a year of managerial upheaval that saw Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsey both removed from their positions.
Morrison’s first task as permanent manager of the West Bromwich Albion in 2026-27 is to rebuild his first-team squad in order to avoid last season’s narrow escape, and one player who could be signed as part of that overhaul is young Chelsea forward Jimmy-Jay Morgan, who spent the 2025-26 season on loan with Peterborough United in League One.
West Bromwich Albion will pay Chelsea a seven-figure payment for Jimmy-Jay Morgan.

With the summer transfer window about to open on June 15th, work has already begun to ensure that everything is in order for West Bromwich Albion’s summer transfer business, and they are prepared to pay Chelsea £1.3 million to obtain the services of Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
Pete O’Rourke stated earlier this week that Morgan was in advanced talks to join The Hawthorns, and the Express & Star has verified that Albion are likely to pay Chelsea this price, with the forward impressing in League One on loan at Posh in the 2025-26 season.

Morgan has only played a season and a half of senior football, spending the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan in League Two with Gillingham before spending the entire season with Peterborough, when he scored 14 goals across all competitions.
West Brom’s interest in the forward, who has shown himself in League One and League Two, underlines their belief that the 20-year-old is ready to move up to the next level.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan impressed with Peterborough United throughout 2025-26.

Jimmy-Jay Morgan’s performances with Peterborough United throughout the 2025-26 League One season showed that the youthful forward has the potential to develop into a better player.
While Posh’s season was severely poor, as they finished 18th in League One, Morgan had a successful season, scoring twelve goals and contributing three assists in 34 League appearances, 32 of which were starts.
Morgan began his career in the academy at Stamford Bridge at the age of eight, before moving to Southampton three years later. However, he returned to Stamford Bridge for an undisclosed price in February 2023, and he made his League Two debut with Gillingham in January 2025, scoring twice in 16 games.
Morgan has previously represented England at the under-16, under-17, under-18, and under-20 levels, so there is no doubt that he possesses the capacity to thrive at West Bromwich Albion. To do so well at a struggling League club suggests that he is ready to move up to the Championship.
With the appointment of James Morrison coming at the end of a turbulent 2025-26 season for the Black Country club, West Bromwich Albion will be hoping for greater stability next season, and the arrival of this exciting young forward is an indication of the club’s intention to avoid finding themselves in the same predicament as they did the previous season.
