West Brom will be expecting for a boost next season under James Morrison.

The Baggies battled for much of the season, but the 40-year-old managed them turn things around and avoid relegation after catastrophic spells under Ryan Mason and temporarily Eric Ramsay in command.

Albion faced relegation to League One, but finished 21st, four points ahead of Oxford United in 22nd.

It will be a hectic summer at the Hawthorns, with Morrison getting his first chance to shape the first team squad to his liking.

The former West Brom midfield starlet took over in February and was given the permanent post after initially being appointed as an interim.

He oversaw four victories and six draws in 12 games, which was enough to secure their spot in the Championship for another year.

West Brom are leading the hunt to sign Chelsea’s youngster.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that West Brom are in advanced talks to recruit Jimmy-Jay Morgan from Chelsea.

The Baggies are leading the race to sign the forward, who spent the season on loan at Peterborough United in League One.

It is understood that the Championship club is looking for a permanent agreement for the 20-year-old, who has progressed through Chelsea’s academy system.

Morgan had spent time on loan with Gillingham before signing a temporary contract with the Posh last summer.

He scored 12 goals and three assists in 34 League One appearances, helping the club finish 18th in the table.

It was claimed earlier this year that a number of Championship clubs were keeping an eye on Morgan ahead of the summer transfer market.

Sheffield United, Swansea City, and Preston North End were among the clubs interested in signing him, but West Brom are now the leading contenders.

Morgan has not played for Chelsea since rejoining the club from Southampton in 2023, after moving from Stamford Bridge to Hampshire in 2017.

West Brom are aiming to improve their attacking options for next season, after scoring just 48 goals in 46 league games this season.

Aune Heggebo led the way with nine goals, while Josh Maja and Daryl Dyke struggled to remain fit.

It’s unclear what kind of fee will be required to persuade Chelsea to sell Morgan.

Morgan demonstrated lots of promise in League. One this year, scoring 12 goals on a club that failed to produce positive outcomes on a regular basis.

He could be ready to move up to the Championship, especially because he is still only 20 and has plenty of time to develop and improve.

The teenager earned great experience this year and will join a club that should be able to provide him with regular football next season.

If Morgan can continue to amaze when moving up in level, he may become a very important asset for the team, making this a very wise investment in the long term.
