Southampton Spygate takes another twist as the new club faces an FA investigation.

Although the Spygate story may appear to be over, the aftermath from the drama is still ongoing, with new disclosures.

Southampton were kicked out of the Championship play-offs despite defeating Middlesbrough in the semi-finals after admitting three counts of spying on Borough, Ipswich Town, and Oxford United.

Yesterday, WhatsApp communications exchanged between the analyst at the core of the maelstrom and a member of staff were released, as was Eckert’s enthusiastic reaction to his mission.

Another bombshell has emerged regarding the Tractor Boys espionage affair, with a National League team likely to take action after playing their part.

Eastleigh provided Southampton with footage of Ipswich Town training.

When the Saints were probed over suspicions they spied on Middlesbrough’s training session, there was always the possibility that more truth would emerge.

Indeed, that is exactly what happened when it was revealed that the South Coasters had also spied on Ipswich and Oxford, who had quite different fortunes in the second tier.

Ironically, Southampton only managed to gain one point from the games that followed their espionage, implying that neither club’s ranking was impacted by their conduct.

More information has been released about the eavesdropping that occurred at Ipswich’s training session ahead of their league clash in April.

According to the Daily Mail, Eastleigh may face an FA investigation after a report claimed that they provided Southampton with film of Kieran McKenna’s side training at their facilities on April 28.

Saints analyst William Salt declined to be sent on the espionage operation, but another analysis did after being given an Eastleigh kit and a ‘legend’ about his backstory if questioned.

The magazine also states that insiders expect the FA to investigate the Spitfires.

What’s next for Southampton?

Despite Eckert’s involvement in Spygate and thus being partially responsible for Southampton’s elimination from the play-offs, it appears he will remain his position.

Dragan Solak, the Saints’ owner, has declared that he has no intention of removing the German and will give him the opportunity to compete for promotion again next season.

“I think he deserves a second chance, and I would give it to him,” Solak told BBC Sport.

“My full support would be behind him actually, because I think he’s a super-talented manager.”

Of course, Eckert could face a ban, and it would be interesting to observe what Solak does in that circumstance.

Then there are the players, with a slew of Southampton stars connected with moves away from St Mary’s and Premier League deals on the table.

Leeds United are interested in Shea Charles and Leo Scienza, according to Football Insider, as they look to improve their squad ahead of another top-flight season, while Saints will most certainly have to make decisions about their best talent.

Whatever happens this summer, the South Coasters must focus on their football and avoid repeating the blunders that could cost them promotion.
