Sheffield United will have an important summer following an unimpressive season in the Championship.
After a disastrous start to the season, Sheffield United fired head coach Ruben Selles in September, and Chris Wilder returned to the club for a third term in command as his replacement.
Following an initial upturn in form under Wilder, talk of a possible play-off push began to circulate among the Bramall Lane fans, but an erratic second half of the season saw the Blades finish 13th, 12 points behind the top six.
Wilder stated in April that he planned to make “a lot of changes” to his team this summer, and it appears that defender Mark McGuinness might be one of those leaving, with The Star stating that the 25-year-old has a “uncertain future” at the club.
McGuinness just joined United from Luton Town last summer for an unknown amount of between £4 million and £5 million, but despite starting regularly in the early parts of his spell in South Yorkshire, he lost his position in the team over the winter months.
With Tyler Bindon and Japhet Tanganga establishing themselves as Wilder’s first-choice defensive pairing, McGuinness did not appear for the Blades between the end of January and the beginning of April, and while he returned for the final six games of the season, it appears that will not be enough to save his career at the club.
Sheffield United fans have issued a verdict on Mark McGuinness’s likely summer departure.

When asked about McGuinness’ potential departure, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy from the YouTube channel Blades Ramble stated that he would be open to giving the defender another chance at Bramall Lane next season, but would not be disappointed if he left.Jimmy stated,
“It’s a tricky one with Mark McGuinness because he’s a solid player at the Championship level.”He was among many that arrived on the final day of the transfer window, in what appears to have been a chaotic day of signings.”It was not made by Chris Wilder, who is now in charge.”I understand Wilder’s desire for change.
“I don’t think he’s a top level Championship defender, to be honest.””It’s just a matter of replacing him at the appropriate level.”If we decide to sell Mark McGuinness if a good offer comes in, we will only have one centre-back at the club, Japhet Tanganga, so there is a lot of work to be done.
“I’m not against it, but if he stays for squad depth, I’m not against that either.”
Mark McGuinness will have Sheffield United fearful following Chris Wilder’s harsh clearout.

Wilder vowed a squad revamp at Sheffield United this summer, and he has definitely delivered so far, with high-profile names like as Ben Mee, Jairo Riedewald, Tom Davies, and Danny Ings leaving.
McGuinness was one of four players recruited on the final day of the transfer market last summer as the Blades attempted to salvage their season after a disastrous start under Selles, but it appears Wilder has never been fully impressed by the Republic of Ireland international.
With that in mind, McGuinness would not be the first player to leave Bramall Lane, but it would be a big call for United to offload a player they signed for a multi-million pound fee less than a year ago, and they could be in for a significant loss if they did.
