A fresh Kieran Trippier transfer twist has emerged, with Wolves reportedly involved.

Wolves are gearing up for life back in the Championship following an ugly season in the Premier League.

Relegation had been expected for months before it was confirmed in April, therefore emphasis has been focused on the 2026/27 season for some time.

Clearly, significant work is required to rebuild the squad, so expect a heavy churn of players at Molineux in the coming months, as well as some substantial transactions.

Wolves are in talks to sign Kieran Trippier as he prepares to leave Newcastle United.

In terms of incomings, Wolves lack players with English football experience, something Rob Edwards will try to remedy during the summer window.

Raul Jimenez has been linked with a return to the Black Country, while Kieran Trippier, another veteran player, appears to be on their radar.

That comes as the Express & Star confirmed that Wolves have begun conversations with the right-back about a move this summer. The 35-year-old is expected to leave Newcastle when his contract ends this summer, with his final game coming against Fulham this weekend.

However, any deal will not be easy, since the update confirms rival interest in the former Atletico Madrid player.

Bringing in a right-back is undoubtedly a top priority for the Wolves, since it has been a problem position this season.

Jackson Tchatchoua had a poor first season in English football, and there are concerns about Pedro Lima’s preparedness for a 46-game Championship season, therefore a new acquisition in that area is expected.

Kieran Trippier would contribute to Wolves on and off the field.

Given his age, Trippier’s finest days are behind him, but he should still be able to perform well in the Championship.

Trippier has almost 50 caps for England, hundreds of Premier League matches, and has recently altered his game to allow for solid defence. Furthermore, his ball-handling ability makes him a constant threat in set-play situations.

Most importantly, he is a true leader, which appears to be something the Wolves are now lacking.

Wanderers will face a lot of pressure next season, and they’ll need strong individuals in the locker room to handle it. Trippier’s CV, along with the fact that he was captain at Newcastle, suggests that he might immediately become a key role in the squad.

So, if the Wolves can complete this transaction, Trippier may be the ideal player for someone like Lima to learn from as the young Brazilian strives to fulfill his potential in the years ahead.

Next season will be about gaining promotion, therefore Wolves need some immediate additions, and Trippier would be a significant improvement over what they currently have.

There is also a focus on new chairman Nathan Shi and sporting director Matt Jackson, which is the type of appointment that would reassure fans that the club is moving in the right path following years of mismanagement.
