A truth update on Harry Winks’ wages has emerged following Leicester City’s relegation.

Leicester City’s recent decline has been widely documented, as the team will play their final Championship match for at least a year away against Blackburn Rovers on the tenth anniversary of their Premier League title.

The Foxes have a number of critical decisions to make at the end of the season after suffering back-to-back relegations, which means they will play League One football for the second time in club history, having done so in 2008/09 when they won the title at the first attempt under Nigel Pearson.

Only two years ago, Leicester were able to recover from a completely unexpected drop into the Championship and win silverware once more under the direction of Enzo Maresca, before the Italian took over at Chelsea ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Since then, the East Midlands club has been managed by four different managers, with the current boss, Gary Rowett, scheduled to leave the King Power Stadium soon after the season’s last match at Ewood Park.

Despite the club’s troubling financial condition, which has resulted in a six-point deduction owing to a violation of the EFL’s PSR criteria, Leicester were widely expected to undertake another promotion bid before the current season began in August.

However, they were relegated with two matches remaining in the season after a 2-2 draw with Hull City on April 21st, and significant cost-cutting is expected during the summer as a necessary rebuild begins.

Many high-profile names and earners have faced harsh criticism as a result of their on-field performances, with Harry Winks arguably the most notable example.

Following Leicester City’s relegation to League One, the truth about Harry Winks’ salary has emerged.

Winks has been through a lot during his nearly three years at the King Power Stadium after joining from Tottenham Hotspur for £10 million.

Indeed, the box-to-box midfielder was a vital player in the club’s Championship-winning season under Maresca before things began to unravel last season.

It was widely documented that the 10-time England international was dropped from Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s team last April due to a disagreement between himself and the Dutchman, and Winks’ fortunes haven’t improved this season under Marti Cifuentes, Andy King, or now Rowett.

Despite making 33 appearances, the 30-year-old’s performance, along with that of others, has resulted in significant criticism, particularly from Capology – a site that ESTIMATES player earnings – which claims he is currently earning £90,000 per week, while the site also claims that the Foxes have the highest wage bill in the division despite being relegated alongside Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday.

However, according to an in-depth investigation from the Athletic, Winks makes less than half of that sum, implying that he earns less than £45,000 per week, however the actual value is expected to fall further following back-to-back relegations.

At the completion of the current season, the Hemel Hempstead native will have one year remaining on his current deal, which was extended in the summer of 2024.

Harry Winks and Leicester City would both benefit from fresh starts following straight relegations.

At this moment, it’s difficult to imagine a universe in which Winks, Abdul Fatawu, Patson Daka, and many more remain in the Midlands for Leicester’s first League One campaign in 17 years.

During the relegation-confirming draw with Hull, the midfielder’s second-half introduction was met with a chorus of boos from the home crowd following a viral video that surfaced three days earlier, showing Winks having an intense verbal disagreement with a disgruntled Foxes supporter.

It remains to be seen whether a future manager will want to keep much of the present squad, with NEC Nijmegen’s Dick Schreuder recently linked with the post.
