Sheffield Wednesday handed takeover relief following a John Textor update, with a ‘risk’ claim now emerging

Sheffield Wednesday are expecting to finally look forward to a bright future as the Storch family prepares to take buy the club.

The US group has substantial riches, and they have been interested in investing in English football for some time. David Storch’s visit to Sheffield convinced many fans that they would make excellent Owls owners.

However, things could have turned out very differently for Wednesday, as James Bord had earlier been named as the favored bidder, but he withdrew from the process, much to the delight of Yorkshire club fans.

In addition, John Textor, a former Crystal Palace co-owner, has spoken with Dejphon Chansiri about purchasing Sheffield Wednesday.

Those conversations did not progress, which is a relief for Wednesday, as it was announced last month that Textor’s Eagles Football Holdings Bidco had gone into administration.

The administrators are now hunting for purchasers for Eagles’ controlling holdings at Botafogo, Lyon, and RWDM Brussels.

Even if Textor’s interest in Wednesday never became serious, it would have been a major problem if someone with his background had purchased the club, especially with this latest revelation.

When asked by FLW if this was a bullet dodged for the Owls, Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna stated that it appears to be the case, emphasizing the importance of stability over the ‘baggage’ that Textor would bring.

“Looking back, it appears that Textor is a swerver, and it’s a good thing we ended up avoiding him in the end.”

“Textor always came with a lot of baggage, a lot of unnecessary danger. There is no pressure on the potential new owners, which allows them to focus on the club.

Can the Storch family bring success to Sheffield Wednesday? Please let us know in the comments below.

“I got the impression that with Textor, we were part of a larger football group, and there was no guarantee that we would receive the attention we deserved, or that we wouldn’t be utilized to assist another of his teams.

“There have been varied degrees of success with his clubs, but it appears he is never far from controversy, and after the craziness of Chansiri, I want calmer owners and less drama. Unfortunately, I believe Textor would have brought that. I suppose we’ll never know how interested he was, but I’m glad he didn’t get it over the line.”

Sheffield Wednesday requires stability once the Storch family has completed their takeover.

Many people would echo these sentiments here, as Sheffield Wednesday has been dragged through the dirt over the years by the way Chansiri has operated.

We don’t know how things will turn out with Textor, but it’s fair to say that the buzz about him is frequently negative, and as previously stated, he carries baggage and controversy that the Owls just don’t need.

You don’t get that vibe from the Storch family, and while they will be evaluated based on their deeds, the way David Storch has communicated with and listened to fans is really encouraging.

So, after talks with Bord and Textor, everyone connected to Sheffield Wednesday will be overjoyed that the Storch family is about to clinch a deal to acquire the club, but they won’t get carried away until it’s done.
