A fresh points deduction claim has placed Sheffield Wednesday’s administrator in the spotlight.

Sheffield Wednesday faces a points deduction despite criticism

Sheffield Wednesday appear ready to get a 15-point deduction in League One season later, as part of EFL rules relating to David Storch’s takeover falling short of creditor criteria. This comes after James Bord’s previous takeover failed, costing more than £4 million to keep the club viable.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that, while Henry Winter called the deduction “absolutely ridiculous,” the regulations are followed consistently. Wyness stated that Winter may have appealed to Sheffield Wednesday fans, and that leniency may have been considered, but consistency is essential throughout the league.

Wyness said that the club is still a “sleeping giant” with a rich history, but financial mismanagement has left the administrator suffering. He believes a suspended penalty would have been more appropriate, but the rules must be obeyed.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are apparently chasing Dundee goalkeeper Jon McCracken, who is expected to depart the Scottish Premiership club this summer, with Blackburn Rovers and QPR also reportedly interested.
