Coventry City have revealed 13 players, including Sammie Szmodics, that will miss today’s match against Derby County.

Coventry City will face Derby County in the Championship on Good Friday at the CBS Arena.

After losing to Southampton in the previous game, Coventry resumed their title pursuit with a 3-0 victory over Swansea City before the international break, with Brandon Thomas-Asante’s penalty and goals from Matt Grimes and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto securing the win.

The Sky Blues now lead the Championship standings, nine points ahead of second-placed Middlesbrough and 11 points ahead of third-placed Ipswich Town and fourth-placed Millwall, though that distance may have narrowed by the time they face off on Friday night.

Derby extended their play-off campaign by defeating Birmingham City 1-0 at Pride Park last time out, with Rhian Brewster’s first-half strike proving to be the difference.

The Rams are eighth in the table, three points behind sixth-placed Southampton, and with the Saints in FA Cup action this weekend, John Eustace’s side will be seeking to draw level with Tonda Eckert’s team.

As they prepare for the business end of the season, both Coventry and Derby are dealing with a number of injury issues, so we looked at which players are expected to miss Friday’s encounter.

Oliver Dovin, Coventry City

Oliver Dovin, Coventry’s goalkeeper, has been out for over a year after suffering a catastrophic knee injury in the team’s defeat at Sheffield United last March.

Dovin had hoped to return in January, but his recovery is taking longer than expected. Carl Rushworth, on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, continues to impress for the Sky Blues in goal.

Miguel Angel Brau, Coventry City

Defender Miguel Angel Brau joined Coventry from Spanish club Granada in the summer, although he has struggled to establish himself at the CBS Arena thus far.

Brau has made only ten appearances for the Sky Blues in all competitions this season, the latest of which came in the New Year’s Day tie at Charlton Athletic, and he is presently out due to a muscle injury.

Jack Rudoni, Coventry City

Midfielder Jack Rudoni has been instrumental in Coventry’s promotion push this season, scoring five goals and contributing six assists in 28 games.

However, after missing nearly two months due to injury earlier in the season, Rudoni has been out for the past four games with a calf problem, and while he is anticipated to play some part over the Easter weekend, it is unclear whether he will be fit to face Derby.

Brandon Thomas-Asante, Coventry City

Striker Brandon Thomas-Asante scored his 12th goal of the season from the penalty spot against Swansea, but he is doubtful for Derby’s visit.

Thomas-Asante withdrew from Ghana’s squad during the recent international break after being substituted in the 62nd minute in South Wales due to a tight hamstring, and Lampard gave little indication of the 27-year-old’s fitness on Thursday, saying, “We’ll have to see where he is for these two games.”

Haji Wright of Coventry City

While Thomas-Asante has produced some impressive figures for Coventry this season, teammate striker Haji Wright has an even more eye-catching goal tally, with 17 goals in 36 games.

Wright missed the trip to Swansea due to a groin strain, which also prevented him from reporting for international duty with the United States. While he trained with the Sky Blues squad on Wednesday, Lampard admitted it was too “early” to say whether he would be available on Friday night.

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, Derby County

Goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom had a strong first half of the season for Derby, keeping six clean sheets in 29 appearances, but he has not played for Eustace’s side since the end of January.

Zetterstrom has been sidelined due to an unknown virus, but Eustace stated on Thursday that he is “progressing really nicely now” and expects to return training with his teammates “in a couple more weeks”.

Josh Vickers – Derby County

Goalkeeper Josh Vickers initially filled in for Zetterstrom during his absence, but after making seven consecutive starts, he incurred an

He sustained an injury of his own last month.

With Vickers anticipated to miss six to eight weeks due to a groin injury, third-choice Richard O’Donnell has performed brilliantly in recent weeks, earning him a new contract at Pride Park.

Max Johnston, Derby County

Defender Max Johnston joined Derby from Austrian club Sturm Graz for £3.5 million this summer, becoming one of several high-profile additions.

Johnston has only made nine appearances for the Rams, the most recent in late October, but after missing nearly five months due to hamstring and calf ailments, he was spotted back in training during the international break, indicating that his return is not far off.

Sondre Langas, Derby County

Sondre Langas, a defender, has become a vital part of the Derby club since joining from Norwegian side Viking for about £4 million last January, although he has struggled with injuries this season.

Langas has been out since late January with a hamstring injury, but fresh images of him in training look to reveal that he is nearing a return to action, albeit the Coventry game may come too soon for the 25-year-old.

Callum Elder – Derby County

Callum Elder has been a consistent starter for Derby this season, scoring one goal and assisting six times in 30 appearances, however he has missed the previous five games due to injury.

Elder was already dealing with a toe problem when he sustained a knee injury in February’s defeat at Hull City, which necessitated surgery, but he is set to return soon as Eustace’s defensive injury issues improve.

Liam Thompson, Derby County

Derby midfielder Liam Thompson has had a tough season, with injuries limiting him to just 18 games across all competitions.

Thompson last played for the Rams in mid-February, but despite experiencing a little setback in his recovery from a calf injury, he was sighted back in training over the international break, so he may be able to return in the coming games.

Sammie Szmodics – Derby County

Forward Sammie Szmodics reconnected with former Blackburn Rovers manager Eustace when he joined Derby on loan from Ipswich Town in January, and he has two goals in eight appearances for the club.

After being knocked unconscious while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, Szmodics will miss the Rams’ Easter double header against Coventry and Stoke City due to rigorous rules, but Eustace said that the 30-year-old has “been out on the grass” this week.

Lars-Jorgen Salvesen, Derby County

Striker Lars-Jorgen Salvesen has struggled for playing time at Derby this season, with only four of his 26 appearances in all competitions coming from the start, but he has still scored three goals and assisted twice.

Salvesen, like Thompson, has been out since mid-February with a calf injury, but Eustace was hoping that he would return to training after the international break, so he may make his return in the coming weeks.
