According to Bild, Eintracht Frankfurt is keeping an eye on Joshua Quarshie in preparation for the forthcoming transfer market.

The defender joined the Saints from German club Hoffenheim last summer, but he has struggled for consistent playing time at St. Mary’s.

It is reported that the Bundesliga club could give the centre-back a return to Germany, where he has had loan spells at Fortuna Dusseldorf and Greuther Furth.

The 21-year-old played a total of 20 games in the two. Last season, he played in the Bundesliga for two different clubs, which led to his signing for Southampton for a reputed £3.5 million.

It remains to be seen whether the Saints will allow Quarshie to leave just one year after joining the squad, although his lack of playing time may pave the way for a fast departure.

The German has made 13 appearances in the Championship, the majority of which came under Still.

Under Tonda Eckert, he has made six league appearances, the most recent coming as a late replacement in a 2-0 victory over Oxford United in March.

Injuries limited his growth in his first year at St. Mary’s, but he has a contract with the Hampshire team until June 2029.

Southampton are now sixth in the Championship, tied on points with seventh-placed Wrexham.

However, Eckert’s side’s next match is an FA Cup quarter-final against Premier League leaders Arsenal at home on April 4 at 8 p.m.

Joshua Quarshie’s selling may be best for all parties.

Quarshie hasn’t made the impact that fans had hoped for when he arrived from Hoffenheim last summer.

The defender has struggled to establish a constant role on the club, and he does not appear to be a significant part of Eckert’s plans.

It’s also difficult to imagine him playing more frequently if Southampton is promoted to the Premier League for next season.

A move to Frankfurt that allows the Saints to reclaim the £3.5 million they invested to sign him may be the best option for all parties at this point, since his career is at risk of stalling at St. Mary’s.
