Sheffield Wednesday have had a forgettable season as they prepare for a busy summer after being relegated to League One.
In truth, events on the pitch have meant very little to everyone associated with the Owls for quite some time, as there have been genuine concerns about the club’s future.
After going into administration in October, a consortium led by James Bord was in pole position to buy Sheffield Wednesday, but he withdrew from the deal.

This put the Yorkshire team back in a tight situation. The Storch family was declared preferred bidders for the Owls earlier this month, indicating that there was a lot of interest in the team.
David Storch offers an encouraging Sheffield Wednesday takeover update.
Since then, the essential EFL checks have been conducted, but there have been encouraging signs that progress has been made in the background.
And David Storch has gone into more detail, revealing on social media that they have now ‘passed a big hurdle’ as they try to complete a deal for Sheffield Wednesday ‘before the conclusion of the season’, which is on May 2.
“I’m pleased that we cleared a significant hurdle yesterday as we work toward our goal of acquiring ownership of this fantastic club by the end of the season.”
“I’m grateful to the EFL and the admins for such fruitful discussions this week. I want you to know that my team and I are working relentlessly and are completely committed to achieving the greatest possible outcome for Sheffield Wednesday and our incredible fans.
“Tomorrow, I head back to the UK for a week of meetings with a variety of professionals to ensure we hit the ground running and keep our commitments both on and off the pitch. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in Sheffield. Please stop by and say hello if you see me around town.”
Sheffield Wednesday may envision a brighter future under the Storch family.
It’s understandable that Sheffield Wednesday fans wouldn’t celebrate until everything was signed and sealed, but these updates are quite hopeful.
The EFL checks appear to be going well, and with Storch expressing confident that this will be completed in a few of weeks, there is plenty of reason for confidence.
Obviously, they will be judged by their behavior after their takeover is complete, but the Storch family’s interactions with Wednesday fans have been positive.
They are open to discussion, have not made any grandiose, absurd statements, appear to operate in a rational, professional manner, and we know they have the financial resources to make a significant contribution to the club in the future.
This is not to argue that instant success is to be expected. Wednesday will begin next season with a points deduction, and there will be wage cap restrictions, despite ‘good’ conversations with the EFL on the matter.
In any case, it is evident that significant work must be done at Hillsborough to restore the club’s competitiveness, but there will be hope that with the Storch family in charge, they can persevere.
So, perhaps, this will be completed in the coming weeks, and Sheffield Wednesday’s dismal season will come to a conclusion on a positive note if new ownership takes over.
