Norwich City manager Philippe Clement has confirmed the departure of a crucial player, leaving his teammates in tears.

Philippe Clement will be able to remodel his Norwich City squad by signing new players during the summer transfer window, but he will also have to deal with some player departures.

Clement has transformed the Canaries’ fortunes since taking over as manager from Liam Manning in November, guiding the team to the top half of the Championship.

Norwich had been anxious about relegation under Manning, but they have already established themselves as a club that many second-tier analysts believe will be promoted next season.

The Canaries overcame Charlton Athletic 1-0 in their final game before the March international break, and they now lie 10th in the Championship.

Emiliano Marcondes advises Norwich City colleague about Carrow Road exit.

Emiliano Marcondes has made 16 Championship appearances for Norwich this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists, however he has not appeared since their 2-0 loss to Stoke City on January 4.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Tipsbladet, Marcondes remarked of Canaries teammate and fellow Danish player Pelle Mattsson: “I didn’t know him well from the Danish league, but he has really surprised me. He fits in well. “I was told he was good on the ball, but I believe he is a better pressing player.”Now I have to be careful what I say, but I believe he will be able to play at a better level very soon. I believe other clubs have already expressed interest in him. That’s what I think when I see him play.”

Mattsson moved to Norwich from Danish club Silkeborg last summer and was the hero in last Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Charlton, netting his first goal in English football.

The 24-year-old has established himself as a dependable defensive midfielder, appearing in 26 Championship games for Norwich this season.

Pelle Mattsson might be better served by sticking with Norwich City for at least another season.

Norwich have won five of their past six league games, just one illustration of their outstanding record since Clement arrived at Carrow Road.

When Manning was fired, the Canaries were second-bottom in the Championship, but they are now 15 points clear of the relegation zone and nine points behind of the play-offs.

Clement has led the Norfolk club to numerous excellent results, including a 5-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion in January, which was followed by a 2-1 win over league leaders Coventry City.

Norwich’s recovery under Clement demonstrates that they are capable of finishing in the play-offs, or perhaps automatic promotion, next season.

Meanwhile, as Marcondes mentioned, Mattsson has easily acclimated to the demands of Championship football and is establishing himself as one of the best players in the second division.

However, because this is the 24-year-old’s first season in the English game, he may be best served by remaining in the Championship for the following season rather than heading to the Premier League or another top-flight division.

Mattsson’s performances this season show that he will be a valuable asset for Norwich next season, and current form suggests Clement’s side has what it takes to begin a promotion challenge in 2026/27.
