A Sheffield United star has been charged by the Football Association after their red card appeal was rejected.

Sheffield United’s Femi Seriki has been punished by the Football Association after his red card appeal was refused.

The Football Association has punished Sheffield United right-back Femi Seriki over his response to the red card he received in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.

With only 23 minutes played, the Blades academy graduate was sent out for clumsily taking down Birmingham winger Ibrahim Osman. Marvin Ducksch scored the home team’s first goal with a superb free kick.

Referee Tim Robinson deemed Seriki to be the last man, with teammate Tyler Bindon not considered close enough to serve as a covering defender. Blades manager Chris Wilder was less than pleased with the decision, claiming Bindon was providing cover.

“I can’t believe, for the life of me, that it was so in that grey area that they can just make that decision,” Wilder told the audience. “It’s so grey, and it’s not even grey because it’s geared for us. Tyler Bindon is featured on the cover.

“The referee is unclear, but the linesman is plain. He’s two or three yards away from it.”

United is said to have appealed the verdict in the hopes of having it reversed, but they were unsuccessful, so he will be suspended for Saturday’s game against Wrexham at Bramall Lane.

The FA has now stated that Seriki has also been charged for his reaction after receiving a straight red card.

According to a statement made on Thursday afternoon, Sheffield United’s Femi Seriki was charged following the EFL Championship game against Birmingham City on Saturday, March 14.

“It is alleged that the player acted inappropriately and/or used abusive and/or insulting language after being sent off in the 23rd minute.

“Femi Seriki has until Monday 23 March to respond.”

Seriki reacted angrily after receiving his marching orders, with eyewitnesses describing him kicking out at various items in fury as he returned to the away dressing room.
