The West Bromwich Albion hierarchy is presently considering candidates for the third managerial job following a terrible season at The Hawthorns.
After missing out on a second place finish in the Championship play-offs last season due to a poor run of form in Tony Mowbray’s second managerial stint in B71 following Carlos Corberan’s departure to La Liga side Valencia in December 2024, the Baggies have fallen further down the standings this season.
Shilen Patel made the second permanent appointment in his now two-year ownership tenure in this region of the West Midlands in June, giving former Tottenham Hotspur and England player Ryan Mason his first full-time managerial post on a three-year contract.
However, he only lasted a few months in the position, as Albion had a terrible run of form following an initially promising start to the Championship season in which they went unbeaten in their first four games.
The final straw for Mason was a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on January 5th, and he was replaced by another summer target, Eric Ramsay, who signed a two-and-a-half year contract at The Hawthorns on January 11th, just hours after James Morrison oversaw an FA Cup victory over Swansea City as interim manager.
It turned out to be a terrible appointment, with the ex-Minnesota United manager being West Brom’s shortest-serving manager in history, lasting only eight games – none of which the Baggies won – and 44 days in charge.
It has since been discovered that Ramsay’s ideology frequently perplexed the current crop of Albion players, who are currently back under temporary manager Morrison, as Bilkul Football WBA considers the best option to avoid a first relegation to League One since 1993.
A new West Brom managerial update has emerged featuring Baggies cult legend James Morrison.

The 39-year-old is the personification of a modern-day cult figure in this section of the West Midlands, having scored 39 goals in 341 appearances for the Baggies from August 2007 to May 2019 after joining from Middlesbrough.
After retiring, the 46-time Scotland international stayed on Albion’s books as a coach, and he was upgraded to a first-team job in December 2020, following Sam Allardyce’s arrival.
Morrison has remained in that role under six permanent managers or head coaches, and he has also taken interim charge of three matches in the last year, drawing against Cardiff City before defeating Luton Town 5-3 on the final day of last season, as well as the recent FA Cup penalty shootout victory over Swansea.
The club revealed that the former midfielder would take command in the interim, with his new spell beginning with a key match against Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Baggies are currently only one point ahead of Leicester, who remain in the relegation zone despite gaining realistic away draws against Stoke City and Middlesbrough following Gary Rowett’s original short-term appointment.
With West Brom looking for their first league win since December 29th, Football Insider claims Morrison might grab the permanent gig if he performs well against Oxford and Sheffield United, with a trip to Bramall Lane coming up next weekend.
Despite their problems, Albion won 2-1 and 2-0 at The Hawthorns earlier this season.
New James Morrison, West Brom managerial update reveals likely Shilen Patel thought process.

While some supporters would prefer immediate clarity on the managerial situation given Albion’s precarious position in the table, the aforementioned update suggests that Patel is interested in seeing if Morrison can get an immediate response from the playing squad, something Ramsay was unable to do.
Several names have arisen as potential contenders, and it was stated on Friday that Sean Dyche, the former Nottingham Forest manager, is not interested in the open position.
Other prospects mentioned include reunions with Darren Moore or Slaven Bilic, with the latter recently turning down the Blackburn Rovers job, which was later filled by Michael O’Neill on a temporary basis.
