Frank Lampard’s assessment on Sheffield United and major penalty decisions as Coventry City take another step towards the Premier League.
Frank Lampard, the former England player, was full of admiration for Sheffield United as his Coventry City side took another significant step toward the Premier League with a win at Bramall Lane today. The Blades took the lead thanks to Harrison Burrows, but the visitors responded quickly with two goals.
United were forced to lament not just their own indiscretions, but also important decisions made by referee John Busby that went against them, with Femi Seriki and Tyrese Campbell’s penalty claims turned down in each half.
Defeat leaves the Blades nine points outside the play-offs again with 12 games left, but if they can maintain their first-half performances here moving forward, they should win more football games than they lose before the conclusion of the season.

“I thought the first half one, maybe,” Lampard said of the rulings that were rejected. “I assumed we had one on Ephron [Mason-Clark] as well. If we got one tonight that didn’t go our way, it’s probably one less than the previous six or seven.
“And I don’t want to sound arrogant, but there are a lot of penalties we don’t have that are obvious penalties. The League has resolved some issues following games, but others may not.
“I haven’t seen them clearly, but I’m not going to dismiss them. I haven’t seen them since; they were far away from me. Sometimes you make your own luck.
Frank Lampard’s assessment on Sheffield United and major penalty decisions as Coventry City take another step towards the Premier League.
“I came here last year, and we were playing well when Gus Hamer hit a free kick into the top corner. Today, Hamer has a beautiful strike that may go in but goes wide. But, in football, I believe that if you simply dig in and do the correct things, they will occasionally go your way. So we won three straight wins tonight.”
Including one at Bramall Lane, where United have proven tenacious opponents since September, when Chris Wilder took charge from the dismissed Ruben Selles. “They struggled early in the season, but I’ve been keeping an eye on them.
Wilder left seething at “ridiculous” occasions as SUFC naivety was punished.

Wilder clarifies contract stance before of crucial owner meetings.
“I watched them beat Ipswich and contend. I know their players. They have very good, powerful, talented players and are a formidable squad in this competition. And I’ve got plenty of time for Chris.
“I’ll be very happy to see them achieve their goals this season because I believe he’s a good manager.” They’re on the rise, making this a challenging game for us. And to go away for the weekend and then return here, people would have kept an eye on this one, wondering what it could mean given our recent away form.
“And the guys have dealt with the game. So it’s critical that we maintain our feet on the ground today, because we get up tomorrow and the next game is two days away. It is critical that we do not become overconfident. But it’s certainly great for us to get six points in two away games, but now we move on to the next.”
