West Brom to fire Eric Ramsay? Journalist drops Baggies’ update

West Bromwich Albion have found themselves battling the ever-increasing threat of relegation to League One in what has been a disastrous season for the Black Country club.

There was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding Ryan Mason’s summer appointment after missing out on a top-six spot under Tony Mowbray last season, but the former Tottenham Hotspur coach never really got going at the Hawthorns and was sacked of his duties in January.

That prompted West Brom to gamble on Eric Ramsay, but the decision has failed to pay off, and the Baggies’ woes have been exacerbated in recent weeks by slipping deeper into relegation trouble.

The Hawthorns have had a horrible season both on and off the pitch, with ex-sporting director Andrew Nestor leaving his position earlier this month in a convoluted controversy.

Ramsay’s appointment, which Nestor recommended in one of his final big acts at Albion, is quickly shaping up to be a disastrous decision. The former Minnesota United manager has failed to win any of his first seven games in charge, with the Baggies losing four of them and falling to 21st position.

Indeed, West Brom are only six points outside the relegation zone thanks to Leicester City’s recent six-point deduction, and the prospect of relegation to League One remains a distinct possibility amidst growing scrutiny from supporters, who are already expressing their feelings about Ramsay’s situation.

A potential Eric Ramsay sacking update has emerged at West Bromwich Albion

A potential update on Ramsay’s future in command arrived this morning from John Percy of The Telegraph via his X account.

In a report on West Brom’s current situation, Percy stated that the 34-year-old is “already under huge pressure” after a tough start to his stay.

Percy’s report went on to say that there are “growing doubts” about Ramsay’s future in the dugout, which has recently come under scrutiny and backlash from increasingly disgruntled supporters and could now be seriously jeopardized as the club’s hierarchy looks to avoid relegation to the third tier at all costs.

It is not indicated that a second managerial sacking of the season is imminent, but pressure on Ramsay now appears to stretch beyond the Baggies fanbase, and it would be unsurprising to see the Welshman fired soon if he fails to turn the side’s fortune around.

As worries about Ramsay’s immediate and long-term future at the leadership grow, West Brom’s key decision-makers will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on events.

West Brom and Eric Ramsay have season-defining tests in the horizon.

The Baggies are now scheduled to play three games in the next seven days, in what will definitely be a season-defining week for the Championship strugglers, and one that will eventually determine Ramsay’s future.

As previously said, an imposing home encounter awaits Coventry tomorrow afternoon, with a journey across the Midlands followed by relegation six-pointers against Charlton Athletic and Oxford United.

West Brom are five points behind the 18th-placed Addicks, and next Saturday’s trip to Oxford presents an unmissable opportunity to capture three critical points and put a welcome distance between themselves and a side with only 28 points.

Following that double-header, a handful of matches against teams aiming for top-six finishes remain in even tougher tests, meaning Ramsay’s side has no tolerance for error ahead of such an important week of activity.

Four points against Charlton and Oxford could be the absolute minimum for the Baggies, and defeat in either could only heighten the possibility of spending the 2026/27 season in League One, a mounting threat that, if realized, would be catastrophic for Albion.
