South Yorkshire Police have issued a statement ahead of this weekend’s Steel City Derby, as Sheffield United prepares to host Sheffield Wednesday in the season’s last Blades v Owls match.
The highly anticipated match returns to Bramall Lane on Sunday, February 22, with a midday start. Regardless of league status or previous results, the Steel City Derby is still the most exciting game on Sheffield’s football calendar, with plenty of drama and energy.

This season has been tumultuous for both clubs. Wednesday’s campaign has been clouded by administration and a substantial points deduction, while United has spent the majority of the 2025/26 Championship season in the lower regions of mid-table.
Chief Inspector Jonathan Greaves acknowledged that preparations are well underway to ensure the event’s safety. He emphasized that officers had been working closely with both clubs and the local government in the lead-up to the match.
“Our number one priority is making sure residents and visitors can enjoy the derby safely,” he told me. “There will be an increased and visible police presence throughout the day.
“Our officers are available to assist the public and handle any concerns. We encourage anyone who needs help to contact us.”
With heightened security measures in place and emotions expected to run high, all eyes are now on Bramall Lane for what promises to be another heated chapter in Sheffield’s biggest rivalry.
