A new update has emerged, with Norwich City ready to be plundered by Barcelona.

Barcelona are awaiting FIFA approval to recruit Norwich City’s teenage sensation Ajay Tavares.

According to a report in Spanish source Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, the youthful winger has already agreed personal terms to join the Catalan giants.

Tavares, who has yet to play for Norwich at the senior level, is interested in joining Barcelona’s academy system.

The 16-year-old has progressed through the Championship club’s academy system and has represented England at junior international level, appearing for the Three Lions’ under-17 squad.

And, rather than signing a two-year scholarship with Norwich, Tavares appears to be going for the bright lights of Barcelona for a little sum – but there is some red tape that needs to be worked around.

Barcelona seeks FIFA approval to complete the Norwich City transaction.

Tavares is said to be close to a move to Barcelona from Norwich, but FIFA approval is needed to complete the deal smoothly.

While the child has represented England at the juvenile level, he also has a Portuguese passport, which will allow him to leave the United Kingdom and join Barcelona without having to wait until he reaches 18.

Barcelona is now waiting for FIFA’s approval to complete the transaction, with the European giants confident that the process will go their way and they will be able to sign the 16-year-old.

Personal terms are considered to be unimportant, and Tavares has given the go-ahead for the attacker’s move to La Liga. He is likely to play for the club’s under-19 team before perhaps breaking into the first-team squad in the coming years.

Tavares has received numerous accolades at the junior level for Norwich, but he has yet to appear at the senior level, despite training with Philippe Clement’s first-team side in early January ahead of their FA Cup match against Walsall.

Ajay Tavares’ departure will be a setback to Norwich City’s future.

Tavares’ move to Barcelona demonstrates how highly regarded this child is, so losing him at such a young age will undoubtedly be a loss for Norwich – and they will not be adequately rewarded.

His transfer now appears to be a formality, as the clubs await FIFA’s ruling on his eligibility for the deal.

It remains to be seen how far the winger will progress in his career, but the Canaries have passed on the opportunity to give him a road to the first-team squad despite his young age of 16.

If he develops into a top talent, the Championship team may have missed out on a profitable prospect from their youth system, but there is nothing they can do when a club like Barcelona expresses such interest.
