As of right now, Jurgen Klopp will serve as the inaugural honorary ambassador for the Liverpool Foundation, the team’s official charity.

Throughout his nine years as Reds manager on Merseyside, Klopp was a steadfast supporter of the Foundation’s work and frequently gave speeches in public on the organization’s behalf or opened the club’s AXA Training Centre to charity supporters for meet-and-greets.

Following Klopp’s last match as Liverpool manager on May 19, in which his team defeated Wolves 2-0 in the season’s final match, the LFC Foundation received a number of exclusive items worn and signed by the former manager for a fundraising auction that raised £40,000 in just one week.

Even though Klopp has now left the Merseyside region to split his time between a vacation house in Majorca and his native Germany, the legendary former Liverpool manager has now been given exceptional status by the LFC Foundation.

“The LFC Foundation does an incredible job in the community, both in the Liverpool City Region and beyond,” remarked Klopp in reference to his honorary ambassadorship. I’m incredibly honoured to be the first-ever honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation and to go on working with them. With more time on my hands, I’m eager to see what we can do with that.

“We are delighted that Jurgen is continuing his support of the Foundation as our first honorary ambassador,” said Matt Parish, CEO of the LFC Foundation. His continued support of the Foundation and the work we undertake around the Liverpool City Region is excellent and shows his devotion to the organisation, which has been invaluable to us over the years.

“Throughout his tenure at the club, Jurgen has demonstrated his love and passion for the city, and it will only help us to have his support and voice advocating for the work that we do going forward.”

The most recent data available indicates that the LFC Foundation provided support to 123,000 individuals during the 2022–2023 season. Over the previous three years, the Foundation has contributed over £16 million directly to the local economy and over £65 million in health benefits.

The Legends game against Ajax last season brought in nearly £1.2 million, setting a record for the amount raised from a single Legends match. The majority of the proceeds went towards funding the Foundation’s educational initiatives, which address a variety of social issues and improve the prospects for young people in the neighbourhood.

During his tenure with the Reds, Klopp was the recipient of every major award possible, which included a sixth European Cup in June 2019 and the first domestic league title in thirty years a year later. In December 2019, the inaugural Club World Cup was also added to the collection of trophies.

On a three-year contract, Klopp was replaced at the start of June by Arne Slot, a Dutchman.
