Birmingham City boss Chris Davies predicts a quiet transfer deadline day at St Andrew’s, with a centre-back signing likely to be the only one.
The Blues have already completed the majority of their business, with five players joining, including Carlos Vicente, August Priske, and Kai Wagner on permanent contracts.
However, according to Birmingham Live, the Blues are still looking for a new centre-back to help reinforce their defensive ranks, and it appears like Rio Ave’s Jonathan Panzo could be their goal.
Birmingham are now lighter at the back than they were at the start of the month, with Dion Sanderson’s loan move to Derby County becoming permanent and Eiran Cashin moving from Brighton to fellow Championship club Blackburn Rovers.
So some more protection is required, and Chris Davies is hopeful that the transaction will be completed before the window closes at 7 p.m.
A quiet deadline day is expected at Birmingham City, as the priority has been exposed.

Given the pomp and fanfare surrounding Birmingham’s transfer market over the last season and a half, some may be surprised that the Blues aren’t planning a big move in the last hours of the winter window. However, they do not actually need to do so right now.
Chris Davies’ team has made substantial improvements and is expected to have more leavers than additions by deadline day.”I don’t think we’ll be too busy,” Davies said when asked about deadline day business, according to Birmingham Live. “There’s probably one or two that will want to move on.”During this time, the outcome is unpredictable. We’ve obviously been aiming to reinforce in the middle defensive position, where we’re lacking. That’s all I can see occurring.
Currently, St Andrew’s has only three senior centre-backs, with Birmingham yet to replace Brighton loanee Cashin, who was recalled after spending most of his time on the sidelines.
While a replacement would most likely simply take over Cashin’s duty, an injury to the remaining crop of Christoph Klarer, Phil Neumann, or Jack Robinson would ensure that the squad still has ample depth.
Jonathan Panzo appears to be Birmingham City’s man on deadline day.

With once-linked Jamaal Lascelles set to join Championship rivals Leicester City, Birmingham appear to be shifting their focus to Rio Ave centre-back Jonathan Panzo.
According to Portuguese site Cabine Desportiva, the 25-year-old, who has previously played in the Championship with Nottingham Forest, Coventry City, and Cardiff City, has already traveled to England in preparation for a potential move.
And, if Chris Davies is to be believed, that will likely be the end of the business at St Andrew’s on deadline day.
According to Birmingham Live, there may be some last-minute changes with Kyogo Furuhashi, with the item describing his future as “unpredictable,” and if the now fourth-choice frontman departs, a successor may be in the works.
However, it is likely that the Blues will be pleased with simply acquiring a new centre-back and cutting the squad elsewhere.
Birmingham is one of several Championship teams hoping to break into the top six by May. Despite being in the bottom half, the Blues are only five points from the play-offs.
The roster has improved over the last month, and with Panzo’s impending arrival, the Blues are in an excellent position to challenge fellow former League One side Wrexham for a place in the play-offs.
