Mjallby’s Abdoulie Manneh’s intended deal to Birmingham City fell through late on due to competing interest in the player, according to reports.
The attacking midfielder/forward’s future has been the subject of much debate in recent months, following his starring part in Mjallby’s stunning capture of the Swedish first flight title in 2025.
It was rumored a few months ago that Coventry were interested in the 21-year-old, but in a surprise January transfer, Blues stepped in, with Manneh seemingly poised for. St. Andrew’s during the January window.

Abdoulie Manneh is in contact with an unknown club after the Birmingham deal fell through.
However, FLW exclusively disclosed that there was a late twist in that potential swap, with the transaction falling through at a late point.
Since then, more information has emerged, with Mjallby CEO Jacob Lennartsson telling Fotboll Direkt that Manneh is now in talks with a new club about a transfer, which is now the most likely reason why a move to the Midlands has not occurred.
“We can confirm that Abdoulie Manneh has been given permission to visit another club for a potential transfer,” Lennartsson tweeted. We cannot confirm whether the deal will go through or not.Negotiations are now proceeding between both clubs, as well as between the player and the purchasing club.
The kid produced seven goals and four assists in 28 games as Mjallby won the Allsvenskan title, so it’s no wonder that there’s been a lot of interest in him this transfer window.
Birmingham City will soon move on to other targets after Abdoulie Manneh snub.
There’s no disputing that this would have been a fantastic signing for Birmingham, with Manneh having the profile that the club would want: he’s young, has opportunity for progress, and is already well regarded.
Clearly, Chris Davies and the recruitment team believe they need more star quality out wide, and Manneh could have given that spark.

However, it is reasonable to assume that the club is dissatisfied with how things have turned out, and that they should only sign players who are completely devoted to the Blues’ project. That was not the case for Manneh, who now appears to be joining another club.
So, while this is a blow for Birmingham, it could be a blessing in disguise in the long run, but the club must act swiftly to locate a replacement if this is an area where they want to improve.
The addition of Kai Wagner has been a positive start to the window, but Birmingham’s poor campaign thus far demonstrates that more work is needed, and it will be interesting to see who else they can bring in in the closing weeks before the deadline.
