Despite Southampton’s decision, Russell Martin could consider returning to Norwich.

Russell Martin’s prospective comeback to football with Southampton could be jeopardized – by Norwich City.

The former Saints manager is among the favourites to succeed Will Still and is said to be high on the shortlist, with GIVEMESPORT sources claiming that certain senior players and staff are eager for his return.

However, the Canaries fired Liam Manning on Saturday after a seventh consecutive home defeat, which may cloud Martin’s judgment over his next move.

Russell Martin Receives Norwich Opportunity

The former Scotland international departed Rangers under a cloud as their season crumbled from the start.

He hardly lasted four months before being removed of his duties.

However, the current scenario at Southampton has spurred calls for his return to a role he left shortly before Christmas last year.

The south coast club’s hierarchy is considering various suitors, including Martin.

Manning’s departure from Carrow Road, however, presents an opportunity for the 39-year-old to return to his previous club.

The Canaries stopped the rot with a draw against Sheffield Wednesday after six successive defeats, but Leicester City came from behind to defeat them 2-1 on Saturday, prompting the Norwich leadership to fire him immediately after.

The Norfolk club’s supporters are understandably dissatisfied with its current trajectory.

And Martin has credit in the bank at the club after an eight-year tenure that saw him promoted to the Premier League.

However, approaches to the 39-year-old may become more difficult as a result of his pay-off from the Scottish giants.

Unless Martin received a lump payment upon termination of his work, he is typically compensated on a month-to-month basis, complicating any future return.
