Norwich City release statement following Leicester City defeat – ‘haven’t been good enough’

Norwich City have stated that Liam Manning has been terminated as head coach after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in the Championship.

Norwich City have announced Liam Manning’s departure following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City in the Championship, putting the Canaries in 23rd place with nine points.

Mathias Kvistgaarden put Norwich ahead in the 62nd minute, but goals from Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan James reversed the tide in Leicester’s favour. This is Norwich’s seventh successive home defeat at Carrow Road this season.

Marti Cifuentes’ team ends a five-game winless streak and climbs to 12th place in the standings. According to the Mirror, the Foxes are now just four points from the play-offs.

In an official statement, the club confirmed: “Norwich City can confirm that the club has parted ways with head coach Liam Manning.” Assistant head coach Chris Hogg and first-team coach/analyst James Krause have also left the organization.

Marti Cifuentes’ decision on Leicester City’s ‘great addition’ paid off in crucial win.

Ben Knapper, the club’s sporting director, expressed his regret over the decision, saying: “We have tried everything possible to work through this extremely difficult period, but, unfortunately, given the recent run of results and performances, we have been left with no choice but to make a change at this stage.

“Liam and his crew worked relentlessly to propel our football club forward. They are all essentially excellent individuals, and we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

He recognized the fans’ dissatisfaction, saying, “We completely understand the displeasure and criticism from our followers at this point. So far, the outcomes and performances on the field have not been satisfactory. We take that responsibility, but it is now critical that we begin to restore the relationship with our followers and do everything we can to give them something to rally around.”

Manning admitted after another loss that he was unsure about his position. “I am sure there will be lots of noise and speculation,” he told me.

“I need to go home and think about things; it’s too soon after the game to say anything else, but I’m not feeling great.

“It’s a difficult one to accept. I thought we were good in the first half but didn’t put enough pressure on their goalkeeper. We had the proper intent, gave them problems, but lacked quality at crucial moments.

“We also started the second half brightly, scored a goal, and could have had another. But it’s about maintaining the intensity, and what happened after we achieved our aim was extremely frustrating.”

Manning’s departure comes after supporters demonstrated outside Carrow Road against the club’s administration. Toward the end of the Leicester defeat, chants of “we want Knapper out” could be heard, as well as “sack the board” directed at the boardroom outside the directors’ entrance.

The 40-year-old was given a four-year contract in June after less than two years with Bristol City. He took over from Johannes Hoff Thorup, who left the club in 14th place last season.

After 15 games, Norwich is now four points from safety, with Sheffield Wednesday the only team behind them on -4 points. The club hopes to have a new manager in place for their encounter against Birmingham City on November 22, following the international break.
