Craig Bellamy addresses Celtic links and reaffirms commitment to Wales.
Craig Bellamy, Wales manager, has ruled himself out of contention for Celtic’s managerial job, stating that his complete emphasis is on bringing his team to the 2026 World Cup.
The former striker, who had a spectacular loan spell with Celtic during his playing career, has been linked to the Parkhead job following Brendan Rodgers’ resignation. However, Bellamy has stated unequivocally that he does not want to return to Glasgow.
“I couldn’t ask for anything more than what I have right now, and that is where it stands for me,” Bellamy said ahead of the international break. “Anything else is not, and will not be, on my radar.
I understand the links because I used to play there and now coach, so it makes sense. But I really enjoy what I’m doing right now. I’m totally focused on what’s coming up – the playoffs in March — and that’s all I’m thinking about.”

before questioned if his opinion would alter if Celtic were willing to wait, Bellamy reaffirmed his commitment to Wales, citing the four-year deal he signed before taking over.
“My contract has several years remaining. I understand how football works; perhaps people will tire of me sooner rather than later, but as long as I am wanted and can give to Wales, that is what inspires me,” he remarked.
“I try to live each day as it comes and appreciate what I have. This phase has been one of the happiest of my life, and I hope it continues for a long time.”
Wales remains focused on qualifying for the World Cup in America, Canada, and Mexico, with vital games against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia coming up before the March playoffs.
FAW CEO Noel Mooney also downplayed any talk about Bellamy’s departure, praising the 45-year-old’s role on the national squad.
“Craig has done an excellent job with Cymru,” Mooney added. “He’s developed an identity and play style that has piqued people’s interest.
He is only a year into a four-year contract, and our sole concentration is on qualifying for the World Cup. When you do well, you are naturally linked with large roles, and Celtic is a massive club, but Craig is completely dedicated to Wales.”
Mooney stated that Bellamy has “captured the imagination” of Welsh football and will continue to play an important role in their “Together Stronger” campaign.
“We’re all united in the goal of reaching the World Cup — six points in November, onto the playoffs, and then the big stage next year,” the coach said.
