Frank Lampard shares his words to the Coventry City players at HT that led to Sheffield United’s victory.

Coventry City stretched their Championship lead to four points after defeating Sheffield United 3-1.

During the first third of the season, Frank Lampard’s side has emerged as the second-tier’s outstanding package, blowing away opponents with their attacking prowess.

The Sky Blues have scored 39 goals in their first 14 league games, the division’s highest total. Hull City’s figure of 23 comes next, demonstrating how impressive Coventry’s offensive performance has been in comparison to the rest of the Championship.

Coventry now has five points over Middlesbrough in third place, indicating that they are beginning to create a critical automatic promotion buffer. Although the CBS Arena team expanded their advantage at the top of the table with a victory over Sheffield United, it did not always appear to be the case during the game.

Coventry came into the game hoping to recover from their stunning setback at Wrexham, which was the first time they had been beaten all season.

However, it appeared that the Sky Blues would face even more suffering after Sheffield United took a one-goal lead into the break thanks to Sam McCallum’s opening.

Coventry could have folded under the pressure, but instead came out swinging like real champions to overcome the deficit and win 3-1.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Bobby Thomas, and Brandon Thomas-Asante scored too many goals for Chris Wilder’s side, in stark contrast to Lampard’s men’s lack of productivity in the first half.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph after the game, the Sky Blues’ manager discussed what he said to the players at half-time to spark such a turnaround and how it reflects on the team’s season as whole.

“We made little tactical tweaks,” Lampard said. “But the main change was our approach to the game, how fast we were, and how much pressure we applied on them. And that obviously altered the entire course of the match. “It is always the message.”

“It’s what we want to be, and if we want to be successful this season, we have to base it on that. If you look at our huge performances this year, they have been exactly that.

“When we’ve blown teams away, which fortunately we have at times, it’s been more power, pace, play forward, run forward, support each other and move forward and we do that a lot.”

Coventry City appear to be formidable Championship challengers.

After suffering the sorrow of a play-off semi-final defeat last season, Lampard’s squad was unsure how they would react this season.

With Ipswich Town and Leicester City returning to the division, the Sky Blues were never expected to compete for the crown.

However, Lampard’s side has established themselves as the team to beat in the Championship at the moment, and they hope to continue scoring several goals whenever they step onto a football ground.

In their current form, Coventry appear practically unstoppable, and dreams of promotion to the Premier League must be growing around the CBS Arena.
