According to Sky Sports, Ralph Hasenhuttl is unlikely to rejoin Southampton following Will Still’s dismissal on Sunday.
Because the process of selecting their next permanent manager is still in progress, Saints are reportedly not in a rush to name a manager.
Sporting director Johannes Spors is reportedly compiling a list of candidates for the St. Mary’s post, but despite having just observed the team, Hasenhuttl is not likely to be given any consideration.
Gerhard Struber, the manager of Bristol City, reportedly hosted the 58-year-old, who captained Southampton from 2018 to 2022, during the Saints’ 3-1 loss at Ashton Gate last month.
It is improbable that Hasenhuttl will go back to St. Mary’s.

It’s also improbable that Southampton will sign Russell Martin, the former Rangers manager who was fired last month, according to Sky Sports.
The return of the Scottish strategist will be welcomed by many Saints players and staff, as previously disclosed by GIVEMESPORT.
Still left Southampton on Sunday, leaving the south coast team in 21st place in the Championship with just two victories in 13 games.
Still’s winless run in the second level now stands at five games after their 2-0 loss to Preston North End on Saturday, which was their penultimate game in control.
Still was signed to a three-year contract by St. Mary’s in May, but he was only there for five months because Carl Martin, Ruben Martinez, and Clement Lemaitre all left the team.
Under-21 head coach Tonda Eckert has temporarily assumed administrative responsibilities, and according to GIVEMESPORT insiders, the 32-year-old is a serious candidate for the long-term role.
Hasenhuttl succeeded Mark Hughes as manager of Southampton in December 2018 and guided the team to Premier League safety at the end of the season.
The Saints suffered their two most devastating losses in history while playing in the Premier League, finishing 16th, 11th, and twice 15th under the Austrian management.
The south coast team lost to Leicester City 9-0 at home in 2019–20, then they lost to Manchester United on the road the following season.
When the team was in the Premier League relegation zone in November 2022, Hasenhuttl was fired from his position at St Mary’s.
In March 2024, he took over the Bundesliga team Wolfsburg for 44 games, marking his comeback to management after more than 18 months.
